The Court of Appeal is expected to rule today, Wednesday, August 12, on the Attorney-General’s application seeking to suspend its decision acquitting and discharging former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in 2024 and sentenced to 10 years in prison after she was found guilty of several offences, including causing financial loss to the state.
The Court of Appeal later overturned the conviction and acquitted and discharged her.
The Attorney-General has since applied for a stay of execution of the appellate court’s decision while the State pursues a further appeal.
The State argues that allowing the acquittal to take immediate effect could give Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu the opportunity to leave the country and potentially undermine its appeal.
The Attorney-General is therefore asking the Court of Appeal to maintain the current position until the further appeal is determined.
Today’s ruling will determine whether the acquittal and discharge take immediate effect or remain on hold pending the outcome of the State’s appeal.
