Four men accused of posing as National Security personnel and allegedly extorting money from motorists and passengers have been arrested by the Sawla District Police Command.
The suspects were reportedly operating a checkpoint along the Sawla-Wa highway, where they allegedly presented themselves as National Security officials.
According to the Savannah Regional Police Command, the four were found wearing camouflage uniforms and carrying firearms, including a toy gun, which they allegedly used to intimidate motorists and other members of the public.
The suspects are believed to have used their appearance and the weapons to create the impression that they were authorised security personnel while allegedly demanding money from passengers and other victims passing through the area.
Their activities reportedly came under the attention of the Sawla District Police, leading to their arrest.
The Savannah Regional Police Command says the suspects will be processed for court after investigations are completed.
