Asante Kotoko Board Chairman James Osei Brown has urged the club’s players to put the disappointments of last season behind them and approach the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign with renewed determination.
The Porcupine Warriors have intensified preparations for the new season under newly appointed South African head coach Eric Tinkler, with the squad currently based in Accra for their pre-season programme.
Speaking to the playing body following their arrival in the capital, Brown explained that the club’s decision to make changes to the technical team and other areas was aimed at strengthening the squad and creating a better foundation for the future.
He said the changes were primarily intended to support the development of the players and help the club achieve its long-term ambitions, while urging the team to match the commitment being demonstrated by the board.
“We intentionally brought in people to help us do and get certain things we don’t have, and in a certain way that can make us better, and all this is for you, the players,” he said.
“We are preparing you for a greater future. We all know last season, we couldn’t get what we wanted even though we did the best we could. The results were not what we wanted, but we are having a new beginning.”
Brown called on the players to adopt a positive mentality and remain fully committed to the club’s objectives as they prepare for the new campaign.
He stressed that the sacrifices and investments being made by the board must be matched by the players through hard work and discipline.
“I want us to forget the past and focus and be determined. I want you to join me because the kind of effort the board and everyone is putting in, I want you, the players, to put in the same effort,” Brown added.
Kotoko endured a disappointing 2025/26 season and will be determined to produce a stronger campaign under Tinkler.
The Kumasi-based club will get an early opportunity to test their preparations when they face arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup.
The high-profile encounter will also provide Tinkler with an important assessment of his squad ahead of the start of the competitive season.
Kotoko will subsequently open their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign away against newly promoted Debibi United, with the Porcupine Warriors targeting a positive start as they seek to improve on last season’s performance.
