Fire outbreak at the Makola Market in Accra has destroyed shops, stalls and goods worth several thousands of Ghana cedis.

The fire which is said to have started around 7 am on Friday was still raging.

Fire personnel supported by one fire tender have been battling the fires.

It is unclear what might have caused the fire.

Head of Public Relations at the Ghana National Fire Service, to Elis Robinson who confirmed the incident said the Fire Service is struggling to gain access to the basement of the mall, where the fire started, due to extensive smoke.
