A 20-year-old final year student of Osino Presbyterian Senior High School in the Eastern Region, Asiedu Kelvin has drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Osino.
The abandoned pit which is about 18 feet deep has become a recreational center for wee smokers and recalcitrant youth who go around swimming and having fun.
Information available to Adom News indicates that, Kelvin went to the abandoned pit with a colleague to swim at around 2:pm Friday after his mock exams.
Kelvin is believed to be in the boarding house but has moved out of the boarding house at the blind side of his parents.
It is unclear how Kelvin drowned in the pitch but one of the rescuer’s Kwame Boamah explained to Adom News’ Maxwell Kudekor that the deceased was part of students writing their mock examination preparing for the West African Senior Secondary Examination (WASSCE), but on their return to the school Thursday, they went swimming in the abandoned galamsey pit.
Kelvin’s auntie Adwoa Asiedua expressed her disappointment over the schools negligence.
She said, they pay boarding fees every term.
Meanwhile headmistress of Osino Presbyterian Senior High School, Silvia Aboagye confirmed that Kelvin was no more at the boarding house.
She explained, the boarding facility so students were required to register for each term but records has it that, Kelvin did not register for a boarding facility this term.
Meanwhile, police has begun investigation.
