The Methodist Church of Ghana is urging government to consider using dialogue in fighting illegal mining menace popularly known as ‘galamsey’ instead of applying force which can lead to loss of lives.

Administrative Bishop of Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo fears applying brutal force will complicate the existing issue.

His comment comes in the wake of government’s ultimatum on galamsey after his sermon at the St. Paul Methodist Cathedral in Tema which touched on the need for transformation as Christ has resurrected.

“Christ’s resurrection is meant to bring new life which is devoid of negative attitudes including destroying the environment”, he said.

The message was well received as he sees the pulpit as means of changing people’s negative lifestyle.

He said it is through destruction of the environment that has led to declaration of war on galamsey in the country

Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo however asked government to approach the issue of galamsey with dialogue which involves all stakeholders instead of the use of force.

Meanwhile, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo says it is the duty of man to protect the environment and therefore urged Ghanaians to eschew any attitude that endangers the environment.

It is the wish of the church that galamsey soon becomes a thing of the past.
