The Federation of Muslim Councils has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to review the date for the new voters’ registration exercise.
Calls by the Federation for a change in the April 18 to May 23 set date by the EC for the registration exercise, stem from the fact that the date coincides with the fasting period (Ramadan) of Muslims which begins from April 23 to May 23.
The Federation in a press release said “while we wish the EC well in its endeavours to execute this important national exercise, we also wish to draw attention to the discomfort the exercise would cause Muslims nationwide as it coincides with the fasting period.”
