A family of six people has drowned at Adagya near Esereso on the Lake Road in Kumasi while attempting to cross a broken bridge on the Ankonim Stream.

The deceased are members of the Jehova’s Witness faith who had closed from construction works on a new Kingdom Hall project in the area and were on their way home in a saloon vehicle when the incidence occurred.

They were, however, swept away by the force of the Ankonim Stream which had then broken its banks and blocked the only access route; carrying the vehicle away.

Multimedia Journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor who was at the scene of the accident reported that even though police were at the scene, they did not have the needed equipment to retrieve the trapped family immediately.

Hours after the incidence, rescuers have been able to retrieve the lifeless bodies of five of the victims with but the driver is still missing, according to family members present.

Assembly Member for the Adagya Electoral Area, Emmanuel Adams, who was at the scene and spoke to Erastus has blamed the accident on the broken bridge.

According to him, countless appeals from residents for the bridge to be fixed have gone unheeded to.
