The family of Augustine Ayensu Donkor, a 19-year-old Ghanaian student who died in Germany, has launched an appeal for support to help bring his remains back home for a dignified burial.

Augustine travelled to Germany on May 5, 2026, with hopes of pursuing his dream of becoming a medical doctor. He was studying German at Language School Aktiv Düsseldorf and had made significant progress in preparation for his B1 examination.

According to the family, Augustine’s promising journey was tragically cut short on June 20, 2026, when he went missing after leaving his residence to go swimming in Düsseldorf.

After days of searching, his body was found in a river in the city, leaving his family, friends and church community devastated.

The family described Augustine as a bright, ambitious and faith-driven young man who touched many lives through his music and service at church.

With no relatives based in Germany, Augustine’s family says they are struggling with the emotional and financial demands involved in securing legal documentation, arranging travel and transporting his body back home.

They are therefore appealing to individuals, organisations and well-wishers to support the repatriation effort through donations, prayers and by sharing the fundraising campaign.

The family said every contribution, regardless of the amount, would help give Augustine the farewell he deserves.

Augustine is survived by his family, friends and a community that continues to mourn the loss of a young man whose dreams were cut short.
