Assembly members at the Asuogyaman district assembly in the Eastern region are up in arms with the District Chief Executive, Samuel Kwame Agyekum over the inflation of prices for the purchase of office furniture.

Documents reviewed on Adom FM’s anti-corruption programme Fabewoso reveal that the assembly purchased one HP desktop computer for GH₵4000.

Price check from the open market, however, reveals that the HP desktop cost up to a maximum of GH₵2,500.

Also, HP LaserJet coloured printer which was purchased at GHC16,000 by the assembly is sold on the market for GHC1,850 with the same or similar specifications.

This shocking price inflation has sparked controversy in the assembly with members calling on the DCE to provide answers.

The presiding member of the Asuogyaman district, Jonathan Hagan said he was not consulted about the office equipment purchase.

He, however, noted that when the issue came to him, he confronted the DCE who pleaded innocence.

Mr Hagan pledged that he, together with the assembly members, will ensure all monies lost are refunded to the assembly’s coffers.

Meanwhile, the DCE, Samuel Kwame Agyekum denied any knowledge about the inflated price.
