Some 86 abandoned state vehicles which have been left to rot at the Local Government Institute in Madina in Accra have lost 80 percent of their street values, an independent valuer has said.
The value expert, Emmanuel Annang Yartey, who disclosed this said the 86 abandoned Hyundai gallopers have lost great value and could only be sold out as a scrap vehicle at a scrap value of 20% barring other forms of deterioration.

These vehicles were purchased and imported in March 2000 to be used by District Chief Executives across the country under the Rawlings administration.
Unfortunately, 18 years after the procurement, the vehicles are yet to be used for their intended purposes due to some inexplicable reasons.
As of 2012, the amount said to be demanded by the importers, African Automobile Limited (AAL) was $1.5billion with reports suggesting a daily interest of GHs50 on each of the vehicle.
Speaking on Adom FM’s anti-corruption show Fabewoso, Mr Yartey said the vehicles were usually valued depending on the number of years of usage.

There have been several complaints about abandoned state vehicles with the recent one being the neglect of some ambulance vehicles that were imported into the country by the erstwhile NDC government.
The government has, however, stated it was committed to disposing of the vehicles which are yet to be cleared by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority by the end of 2018 after which valuation will be done prior to an auction.
