The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says it is working with the Attorney-General’s Office to get Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah before a weekend court.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 2, 2026, the office said it was mindful of the constitutional timeframes and procedures that apply to bail, and was “fervently working” to meet them.
EOCO also asked the public to ignore reports that it has granted the MP a GH¢50 million bail.
The statement says Mr Awuah, who surrendered to the office at 10am on Thursday, October 1, is cooperating with investigators as the process continues.
The release follows claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that the MP was kept waiting for hours before his arrest and was held overnight. Mr Afenyo-Markin has also questioned a decision to search the MP’s home, saying the court order issued for a search only covers his law firm.
