Both the election official and the voter can commit an election offence. Below are some of the election offences:

A. It is an offence for anybody to vote or attempt to vote if he/she is not a registered voter

B. It is an offence to vote or attempt to vote more than once

C. It is an offence to vote or attempt to vote in the name of another person, dead or alive.

D. It is an offence to be in a possession of another person’s voter ID card without his/her written consent

E. It is an offence to prevent someone from voting knowing he or she is eligible to vote at that polling station

F. It is an offence to induce or compel somebody to vote in a particular way.

G. It is an offence to be in possession of any election material without authorization from commission

H. It is an offence to obstruct election officials while carrying out their legitimate duties

I. It is an offence to destroy or deface any poster or material displayed in connection with the election or sent to the polling station for election

J. It is an offence to print any election material without authorization from the electoral commission

Penalty

A person who commits any of the offences listed above shall be prosecuted and is liable on conviction, to a fine not exceeding one million Ghana Cedis or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both and shall for a period of five years from the date of expiration of his term of imprisonment, be disqualified from being registered as a voter at a public election, and in the case of a political party, that political party shall be declared a prohibited organization.
