Indiscipline in Ghana’s Senior High Schools (SHS) has reached worrying levels, and the government says it is time to act.

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a national forum scheduled for July to address the growing “canker” of student misconduct.

He described the trend as a threat to schools that are expected to shape future leaders, not normalize bad behaviour.

“Parenting is a shared responsibility,” the minister stressed. “Teachers and parents must work together if we want the best out of these children, who are our future leaders.”

He expressed confidence that stakeholders at the forum will agree on lasting solutions to address the problem once and for all.

Mr. Iddrisu made the remarks during an unannounced visit to Adonten Senior High School while final-year students were writing their final WASSCE core subject, English Language, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

The minister also assured the school community that construction on their long-stalled assembly hall will be completed in the coming months to improve teaching and learning conditions.
