The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is impressed with the smooth election process of the just-ended District Level Elections.

According to the Director of training at the Electoral Commission, Mike Boadu, speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Wednesday, though there were few hitches in some electoral areas, the election process in general was smooth.

“We are really impressed with the process. We didn’t hear any confusion although there were few issues with the materials and late start; we think the process was very impressive. We are excited about the smooth nature of the process,” he said.

He said about 20 electoral areas that could not participate in the elections due to some challenges with the ballot papers, will be allowed to vote tomorrow, December 19, 2019.

Quizzed about the obvious low turnout of voters in the assembly elections, Mr Boadu said, it is a major issue that requires national attention.

“I think the reason why we have low turnouts in the district assembly elections is because people are not interested in that election. The kind of zeal they put in the general election is not the same with this election. People will rather go to work than vote, that is what I think contributes to the low turnout,” he said.
