The Eastern Regional Library Authority has launched a Stem Study Hub to support teaching and learning in Senior High Schools in the region.
The hub funded by AGGREKO with support from Book Aid International saw New Juaben and Asokore S.D.A. Senior High Schools at the launch.
The Regional Librarian, Mr. Evans Korletey-Tene speaking at the launch urged the students to make good use of the hub and added young people must be equipped with the necessary skills to build them build self-confidence as they find themselves in the science world.
“The girl child’s participation in STEM careers are not looked upon approvingly even though some go ahead in achieving good performance in science and mathematics, so it is important to nurture and tap into the entire pool of STEM talent in this population to realize our full potential in science as a nation”.
He also commended Book Aid International and Aggreko for STEM Study Hubs in six senior high schools and two regional libraries.
“These hubs would be stocked with current and updated materials to boost the interest of students, especially the girl child. Thousands of books have been supplied to these hubs to ensure consistency in learning the Stem related subjects”.
The S.H.S Coordinator, New Juaben South, Madam Mercy Afriyie added students who benefit from the hub will become innovative and will go a long way to promote manufacturing of Automobile, Electrical devices amongst other science and technology related services.
The students commended Aggreko, Book Aid International and Ghana Library Authority for the initiative and promised to make good use of the study hub.
