Founder & CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals and Breast Care International, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Waife Addai has advised women to go for regular screening for breast cancer to ensure early detection and prevent death.
Despite the numerous interventions being made globally, breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers among women, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of women annually.
In Ghana, the story is no different, as research shows that breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting females as young as 20 years.
Dr. Mrs. Waife Addai said Ghana has 10th highest number of breast cancer cases in African but that can change if Ghanaian women focused on regular checkups and early treatment.
She made the remark in an interview with Adom News at the Perez Chapel International health screening and donation to the needy as part of their 35th Anniversary at the Independence Square in Accra.
Dr. Mrs. Wiafe-Addia noted that many women fail to seek medical care even when they feel pain or sense a lump in their breast because they fear their breast will be cut off.
She therefore urged such women not to ignore any pain on lump in the breast, saying that early detection can help save the breast and the patient’s life.
The doctor recommended self-examination for early detection, adding that men can even help to examine their breast of their spouses for possible lumps or cancers.
“Very often men tend to manhandle women’s breast during romance and that rather put unnecessary pressure on the breast and cause problem,” she observed.
She therefore urged men to handle the breasts of their spouses with care to prevent cancers.
