Minister for Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu- Ekuful, reiterating the Akufo-Addo-led administration’s commitment to improve cyber security in Ghana, says it is a priority to the government.

“We don’t exaggerate issues of cyber security, it is just that the implications are huge because someone can be elsewhere and infiltrate our system within a second so the time to improve cyber-security is now,” she said.

According to the Minister, the establishment of a cyber-security authority and centre to deal with all matters related to cyber-crime and security in the digital ecosystem shows how important the idea is to the government.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii show, Madam Ursula Ekuful said government will commit all necessary resources to make the project a success.

“We have signed unto the Budapest Convention which seeks to facilitate international cooperation arrangements to respond to existing and emerging cyber threats, through prevention, investigations, and prosecutions of cyber-crimes.

“We also intend to improve the forensic capabilities of the Criminal Investigations Department and other law enforcement agencies in Ghana to enable officers to investigate and prosecute cyber-facilitated crimes,” she added.
