The Council of State is set to meet representatives of pre-tertiary teacher unions on Friday, October 9, as efforts continue to address concerns behind their ongoing industrial action.

The meeting, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Council’s Secretariat, will centre on outstanding issues relating to teacher promotions, deprived-area allowances and the Collective Bargaining Agreement under negotiation with the Ministry of Education.

An invitation signed on behalf of the Chairman of the Council’s Economic and Social Development Committee, HRM Drolor Rosso Adamtey I, said the engagement would allow Council members to receive a briefing on the unions’ grievances.

The planned talks come as the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department works on promotion records for 52,000 teachers, a process expected to support verification for salary adjustments and the payment of arrears.

Controller and Accountant-General Kwasi Agyei said the Ghana Education Service (GES) had submitted the required promotion input forms after processing the teachers’ records on the government payroll system.

He disclosed that, as of 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, the department had processed the promotions of all 52,000 teachers and received the accompanying input forms.
