A former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Layea Afotey Agbo, has called on flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Joshua Alabi to ensure unity in his constituency before seeking the top position of the party.
According to Mr Afotey Agbo, Professor Alabi hasn’t done much in his own constituency in Nungua to vie for the flagbearer position of the party.

“All those seeking to lead the NDC must ensure the party is united. Nungua, Teshie, Osu, La and Tema constituencies of the NDC are divided and it had to take the grace [of God] for some of us to win our seats so they must first work towards uniting the party at that level”, he stated.
Prof. Alabi declared his intention to contest the position early this year as other high profile party members also declared their interest.
They include former Trades Minister Ekow Spio Garbrah; former Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority Sylvester Mensah; Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Kweku Rickets Hagan.

Though former President John Mahama is yet to declare his intention, some political watchers think it is just a matter of time before he does so.

Afotey Agbo

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Wednesday, Mr Afotey Agbo said most of those aspiring to be flagbearers are all qualified but should first seek unity in the party.
He indicated that such persons could not seek to lead a divided party to victory in 2020 if they don’t have any roadmap for unity.

Singling out Prof Alabi, the former Greater Accra Minister said the Krowor Constituency where he [Alabi] belongs, is deeply divided thus it will be politically unwise for him to lead the NDC while his home constituency is in disarray.
