Some believers opposed to the increase in the entrance fee to the Achimota Forest Reserve have gathered to pray for what they describe as God’s intervention in the matter.
The group, which is unhappy with the increase from GH¢1 to GH¢10, believes the new fee could be part of efforts to discourage people from accessing the forest.
According to them, they suspect that some individuals want them to vacate the forest and may have deliberately increased the entrance fee to achieve that objective.
They are therefore praying for God to touch the hearts of those behind the decision and cause them to reconsider the increase.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana United Pastors Association, Samuel Asare, explained their concerns in an interview with Adom News.
He also dismissed suggestions that Achimota Forest is not an appropriate place for prayers, describing such claims as a result of ignorance.
Mr Asare further explained that some pastors who have prayer camps in the forest pay a monthly land permit fee of GH¢20 to the Forestry Commission.
He maintained that the believers have legitimate reasons for using the forest for prayer and are only asking the authorities to reconsider the new entrance fee.
