The accused, Bismarck Kpormeno, was remanded by the court presided over by Her Honour Maame Yaa Mensah when he appeared before it.

His plea was not taken as investigations into the case are still ongoing. He is to reappear in court on June 16, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Command, Kpormeno was arrested on May 31, 2026, by personnel of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit after he allegedly failed to stop when signalled by police officers and attempted to evade arrest.

A search conducted on the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material concealed in the container and wrapped in sellotape.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the suspected narcotic substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

The police said the suspect is assisting with investigations while the vehicle and the suspected narcotic exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes.

The coordinated exercise, carried out by the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department in collaboration with the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, targeted a 23-year-old suspect, Ali Mohammed, believed to be behind a series of violent robberies and a murder case.

According to a police statement, the operation was conducted on June 2, 2026, after intelligence indicated the suspect’s location.

Police say Mohammed was wanted in connection with the shooting and killing of Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road on April 12, 2026. He was also linked to two separate robbery incidents on the Bosomkyekye stretch of the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026, which resulted in the death of a driver’s mate.

During the operation, officers reportedly came under fire after the suspect opened fire with an AK-47 rifle.

“During the operation at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, the suspect engaged the police with an AK-47 rifle but he was overpowered and sustained gunshot injuries,” the statement said.

The Police say investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected robbery syndicate who are still on the run.

The suspect, who had reportedly been evading law enforcement for months, was apprehended by Ivorian authorities in a coordinated operation linked to the ongoing investigation into the killing.

Security sources indicate that arrangements are underway to extradite the suspect to Ghana to assist investigators with the case.

The arrest is expected to advance efforts to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the death of the mobile money vendor, whose killing sparked widespread concern among residents and operators in the business community.

Atsu Bigah was murdered under circumstances that drew significant public attention in Ashaiman and renewed concerns over the safety of mobile money operators, many of whom have become targets of violent crimes in recent years.

Investigators are also expected to examine the relationship between the suspect and the deceased after reports emerged that the two were known to each other and shared a close personal connection before the incident.

The suspect is expected to undergo further interrogation upon arrival in Ghana as authorities continue to build their case.

While police are yet to officially announce a timeline for the extradition process, security sources say discussions between Ghanaian and Ivorian authorities are ongoing to facilitate his return.

The arrest represents one of the most significant developments in the case since investigations began and is likely to provide fresh leads as authorities work towards securing justice for the slain mobile money agent.

Washing bay attendant remanded over alleged theft of friend’s GH¢46,306 for betting  https://www.adomonline.com/washing-bay-attendant-remanded-over-alleged-theft-of-friends-gh%c2%a246306-for-betting/ Wed, 03 Jun 2026 06:40:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668488 The Nkawie Circuit Court has remanded a 21-year-old washing bay attendant into Police custody for allegedly stealing GH¢46,306.90 from his friend and using the money for betting.

The accused, Dominic Fordjour, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing and is expected to reappear before the court on June 15, 2026.

Police Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr. Robert Addo, that the complainant, Bernard Kyei, an electrical welder, and the accused were friends and residents of Afari near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

The prosecutor said that about six months ago, Fordjour accompanied Kyei to open a savings account at the Nkawie branch of GCB Bank, where GH¢46,306.90 was deposited.

Subsequently, the complainant decided to register for a mobile money account and sought the accused’s assistance in guiding him through the registration process. During the registration, Fordjour allegedly advised Kyei to use “1957” as his security code.

Chief Inspector Gyan said on May 25, 2026, the complainant visited the bank to withdraw part of his savings but was informed that the account balance was nil.

An account statement later revealed that the entire amount had been withdrawn through a mobile money number.

Suspecting the accused, the complainant lodged a report with the Nkawie Police, leading to Fordjour’s arrest.

According to the prosecution, in his caution statement, Fordjour admitted withdrawing the money in instalments from the complainant’s bank account into his mobile money wallet whenever he needed funds.

He further told investigators that the withdrawals eventually amounted to GH¢46,306.90 and that he used the entire sum for betting activities.

Following investigations, Fordjour was charged with stealing and arraigned before the court.

Tamale High Court sentences four kidnappers to eight years each after GH¢90,000 ransom case https://www.adomonline.com/tamale-high-court-sentences-four-kidnappers-to-eight-years-each-after-gh%c2%a290000-ransom-case/ Tue, 02 Jun 2026 16:48:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668415 Four men have been convicted and sentenced to prison terms in connection with kidnapping and ransom-related offences in the Northern Region, as police intensify efforts to arrest additional suspects linked to separate abduction cases.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, disclosed the convictions at a press briefing in Tamale on Tuesday, noting that the suspects were prosecuted by the Tamale High Court Two.

He said the convicted persons — Haruna Seidu, Osman Sambo, Amadu Aminu and Hoyeefe Amadu — abducted a man at Wapuli and demanded ransom from his family.

“The accused persons were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Unit while sharing the ransom money at Bokpaba on the Yendi–Bimbilla road,” DCOP Lavoe told journalists.

According to him, the court found the four guilty of conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, causing harm and threat of death. Each was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment with hard labour, to run concurrently.

The court also ordered the auctioning of four motorbikes and four mobile phones retrieved during investigations, with proceeds to be paid into the Consolidated Fund. A sum of GH¢70,010, part of the recovered ransom, is to be returned to the complainant’s brother, Buubu Osman.

DCOP Lavoe said investigations are ongoing into other kidnapping incidents, including a case in which a teenage victim was shot.

He explained that in the Kabulya case, armed men attacked the home of Laolo Issah, assaulted two family members and abducted a boy, initially demanding GH¢100,000, later reduced to GH¢20,000.

Police, acting on intelligence, intercepted Amadu Abubakari at the Binda barrier, where GH¢20,000 in ransom money and an unregistered motorbike were retrieved. He reportedly admitted involvement and named accomplices who are currently on the run.

That victim, Ali Issah, was later found at Kpandai Government Hospital with a gunshot wound to the jaw and transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

In a separate case, police confirmed the kidnapping of 26-year-old Yahaya Issahaq on May 25 while grazing cattle in the Mion District. The abductors reportedly demanded GH¢200,000, later reduced to GH¢150,000.

DCOP Lavoe said coordinated intelligence and digital tracking efforts led to police locating the victim’s body on May 28 near River Dakar at Kpajie, close to Nakpa. He said the deceased had gunshot wounds to the chest and a chain around his neck.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that efforts were underway to arrest all persons connected to the crimes.

“The Northern Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes within the region,” he said.

Police have urged the public to support investigations by providing information through emergency numbers 191, 18555, or at the nearest police station.

They are Olanrewaju Adedeji Segun, Timileyin Fakunle, and Olamide Roheemot, all of whom are data managers.

Three other accomplices, Adebowole Pelumi, Michael Taiwo, and Tommy, are said to be at large.

The accused persons are said to have fraudulently obstructed the communication of victims and obtained funds from them through mobile money payments, then systematically converted the funds into cryptocurrency and transferred them outside Ghana.

Further investigations also revealed that from June 2025 to January 2026, the accused persons and their accomplices received various sums of money from victims’ mobile accounts and transferred $700,000 in cryptocurrency.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, namely operating an electronic communication service without a license from the National Communications Authority (NCA); operating electronic communication services without a license from the NCA; possession of a quantity of unregistered SIM cards; and obstruction of communication.

Segun, Fakunle, and Roheemot, who had no legal representation, have pleaded not guilty to the various charges before an Accra Circuit Court.

The court has remanded the three accused persons into lawful custody to reappear on June 4, 2026.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alowru, prayed for their remand while investigations were underway.

The facts as narrated by the prosecution in court indicated that the complainants are police personnel stationed at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department, Operations Unit, in Accra.

The accused persons are Nigerians and residents of Sakumono, Tema West.

On January 20, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command received information that the accused persons and their accomplices, who were occupants of House Number BE 57, Celebrity Hills Avenue, Sakumono, had installed various electronic devices in their apartments.

Prosecution said they were using the electronic devices to commit SIM box fraud.

On January 22, 2026, personnel from the Regional CID Operations were dispatched to the apartments in response to a search warrant issued by the Adabraka District Court.

Prosecution said the team conducted a search in three apartments occupied by the three accused persons and found a quantity of unregistered SIM cards, 26 desktop computers, 52 SIM boxes, 1,040 assorted mobile phones, 6 internet routers, and other gadgets installed in the apartments and used for SIM box fraud.

The Prosecutor said the accused persons were arrested and identified Adebowale Pelumi and Michael Taiwo, who are currently at large, as their accomplices.

The Court was told by the prosecution that the accused persons also mentioned one Tommy, a Chinese national currently in Singapore, as their overall boss, who issued instructions to them to operate the devices.

Prosecution said an Order of Retention and Examination was issued by the Adabraka District Court, directing the Cyber Security Authority to retain and examine all the devices recovered from the accused persons’ apartments.

The Prosecutor said the Cyber Security Authority accessed the devices and found that the accused persons and their accomplices at large were operating a phone-farming scam centre, based on the configuration of the equipment and operational patterns.

Prosecution said investigations also established that the accused persons fraudulently obstructed communication with the victims, obtained funds from them through mobile money payments, systematically converted them into cryptocurrency, and transferred them outside Ghana.

The prosecution said further investigations also revealed that, from June 2025 to January 2026, the accused persons and their accomplices received various sums of money from mobile accounts of victims and transferred $700,000 into cryptocurrency.

Two granted GH¢200K bail each over maize fraud https://www.adomonline.com/two-granted-gh%c2%a2200k-bail-each-over-maize-fraud/ Mon, 25 May 2026 07:34:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2665652 An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 each with three sureties to two men accused of defrauding a commodity trader of 4,132 bags of maize, valued at GH¢888,380.

The Court ordered that one surety for each accused person must be justified with landed property.

Isaac Danso, 39, a freight forwarder, and Desmond Appiah, 50, a businessman, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud Mr Ibrahim Gomna.

They are expected to reappear before the Court on June 17, 2026, for a case management conference.

Chief Inspector Clement Jerry Acquah, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainant, Mr Gomna, is an entrepreneur and commodity trader.

He said Danso, also known as Oheneba and resident at Oyarifa, together with Appiah, a resident of Katamanso, met the complainant in February 2025 and introduced themselves as commodity traders.

The prosecution said Appiah informed Mr Gomna that he had customers who required 4,000 bags of maize for a poultry farm at Asutuare.

A contract was subsequently signed for the supply of 4,132 bags of maize at GHC215.00 per 50kg bag, bringing the total value to GHC888,380.00.

Chief Inspector Acquah said the accused persons allegedly delivered the maize to Merep West Farms at Asutuare, sold each bag at GHC130.00, collected the proceeds, and used the money for personal gain.

The prosecution said the accused persons subsequently went into hiding until their arrest following a complaint lodged with the police.

Chief Inspector Acquah told the Court that investigations were ongoing.

Counsel for the accused persons, in his bail application, argued that the transaction was purely business-related and that his clients had refunded GHC170,000.00 from the proceeds of the sales.

He further submitted that the accused were breadwinners with fixed places of abode and credible sureties, adding that bail would enable them to adequately prepare their defence.

The Court directed the prosecution to file and serve all necessary documents on the accused persons before the next adjourned date.

The disturbing incident was uncovered on the evening of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, when the Assembly Member for Mempeasem Electoral Area, Hassan Abu Peace Brother, discovered the injured child behind his house at around 7:00pm.

Speaking to Adom News, the Assemblyman recounted he went around trying to locate the child’s parents, as the young girl could only refer to her mother as “mama.”

After successfully locating the guardian, he pleaded with her not to harm the child after being told she always beats the child. However, by the following morning, he received a shocking call.

“An old woman told me the woman will beat the child throughout the night because that’s what she usually does so I confronted the woman but she assured me she won’t beat her. Around 6:00am this morning, however, I received a call that she beat the child and even inflicted blade wounds on her before sending her to school.”

Upon receiving the distress call, the Assemblyman immediately followed up at the child’s school and promptly alerted both the police and social welfare authorities.

School officials then invited the suspect to the premises. On her arrival, she was arrested by police. The Assemblyman has since urged parents to exercise caution when entrusting their children to the care of others.

“If you’re not ready to take care of a child, don’t give birth and hand the child over to someone… every child has the right to live. I’ll support any punishment given to the woman,” he said.

When Adom News interviewed the suspect at the Bole District Police Station, Marijana Alhassan, speaking in her native language, Waala, denied inflicting blade wounds on the child.

She clarified that the victim is not her biological daughter but her husband’s sister’s child, who comes to stay with the family whenever her mother goes on study leave.

She described the child as highly dependent, saying the girl was unable to eat, undress, or use the toilet on her own — a situation she said placed considerable strain on her.

While she admitted pushing the child away in frustration, she claimed the girl fell onto a mopping stick and sustained the injuries as a result. She said she later dressed the child and sent her to school, only to be summoned by school authorities a short while later and subsequently arrested by police upon her arrival at the school.

Marijana Alhassan remains in custody at the Bole District Police Station and is scheduled to appear before the Bole District Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Social welfare authorities are said to be actively following up on the welfare of the child, who continues to receive medical care at the Bole District Government Hospital.

The accused, Abukari Usman, whose plea was not taken, is expected to reappear before the court on June 2, 2026, as police investigations continue.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Robert Addo, that the complainant, Frederick Ocloo, was the Liaison Coordinator at the Afari Military Hospital construction site where the alleged offences occurred.

He said on May 17, 2026, at about 1600 hours, Prince Agyei, the Security Supervisor at the site, spotted the accused entering the premises through a nearby bush and immediately raised an alarm.

According to the prosecution, sensing danger, the accused allegedly dropped a sack containing stolen cables, the value of which is yet to be determined, and attempted to flee.

After a hot pursuit, the security supervisor apprehended him and handed him over to the complainant for further inspection at the site.

The prosecution said a subsequent inspection revealed that the padlock to one of the containers at the site, valued at GH¢200, had been damaged and some electrical cables stolen.

The accused was subsequently handed over to the Nkawie Police, where, after preliminary investigations, he was charged and arraigned before the court.

Police probe violent clash at Drobo Traditional Council Palace https://www.adomonline.com/police-probe-violent-clash-at-drobo-traditional-council-palace/ Thu, 21 May 2026 20:12:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664786 The Bono Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an incident of unlawful damage to property at the Drobo Traditional Council Palace in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region, following a violent confrontation linked to a chieftaincy dispute.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service Public Affairs Unit in Sunyani, the incident occurred on May 19, 2026, when a group of about 15 men allegedly stormed the palace wearing red bands and caused damage to the main entrance door in an attempt to take control of the facility.

The Krontihene of the Drobo Traditional Council, Nana Tanor Bediako, who made a formal complaint to the police, reported that the group arrived at about 9:10 a.m. and engaged in acts of destruction at the palace forecourt.

“A group of people numbering about 15 men besieged the Drobo Traditional Council Palace wearing red bands on their heads and caused damage to the main door of the palace with the aim of taking possession of the facility,” the statement said.

When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the damaged palace gate, with parts of the structure removed and lying on the ground.

The police also retrieved three pump-action guns loaded with 14 rounds of BB ammunition, along with a single-barrel gun, which were taken as exhibits.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident may be linked to tensions between factions within the traditional area. Members of the Bosea family, aligned with the Drobo Queen Mother, are said to have acted on information that the Omanhene was planning to install sub-chiefs.

“They indicated that their presence was to prevent him from going ahead with the installation, but they were prevented by supporters of the Omanhene,” the release noted.

The statement further revealed that a misunderstanding between supporters of the Omanhene and the Queen Mother escalated into a clash at the palace forecourt.

It also indicated that the Bosea family claims to have secured an injunction from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs for service on the Omanhene, alleging that he is evading service and has gone into hiding.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure peace is restored in the area.

The rescue operation follows ongoing investigations into a suspected child stealing and trafficking network believed to have operated across parts of the country.

According to police sources, the child was allegedly taken and sold through a syndicate involving a midwife linked to the Mother and Child Hospital at Osu and several accomplices.

The victim has since been rescued safely by investigators at Kasoa.

The latest development comes after the arrest of a midwife at the Osu Mother and Child Hospital, a retired midwife, and five other suspects who were accused of allegedly stealing and selling children across the country.

The suspects were earlier arraigned before court as investigations into the alleged trafficking network continue.

The case sparked widespread public concern following reports that vulnerable mothers and newborns may have been targeted by the syndicate over a period of time.

Police say investigations are still ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify possible additional victims and accomplices.

Among the accused persons is Lucinda Naomi Otchere, a midwife at Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu. The other suspects have been identified as Janet Larbie, Mary Dotse, Yvonne Twumasi, Sikena Umar, Grace Afriyie and Regina Agyeiwaa.

The deceased, identified as 37-year-old Opoku Agyemang, was reportedly stabbed to death during an argument with his landlord, Kofi Koranteng, on Tuesday.

According to reports, Opoku, a married man with three children, allegedly owed his landlord GH¢30 in electricity bills.

Sources within the community say the two men were not only in a landlord-tenant relationship but were also close friends and long-time work colleagues, making the incident even more shocking to residents.

Eyewitnesses said it remains unclear what exactly triggered the heated confrontation over the unpaid bill.

An eyewitness, Enoch Idan Danquah, said the landlord was unhappy with the way Opoku handled payment of the electricity bills and invited him into his room to discuss the matter.

However, the discussion reportedly turned violent after the landlord allegedly pulled out a machete and stabbed Opoku multiple times.

The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Kofi Koranteng, who is said to have five children, reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

The matter has since been reported to the police, while officers from the Kotoku Police Command have conveyed the body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Family of murdered Momo vendor gives IGP 14-day ultimatum, or they’ll occupy Ketu police command https://www.adomonline.com/family-of-murdered-momo-vendor-gives-igp-14-day-ultimatum-or-theyll-occupy-ketu-police-command/ Tue, 19 May 2026 15:03:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663733 The family of the late Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money vendor, who was murdered in April 2025, has given the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) a 14-day ultimatum to ensure swift action on the case or face a peaceful occupation of the Ketu Divisional Police Command at Denu-Tokor.

The warning was issued at a press conference in Aflao, where family members and concerned residents expressed frustration over what they described as delays and a lack of progress in the investigation.

They said the situation had been worsened by reports that the prime suspect, Mr Ali Tahidu, had escaped from police custody at Adale, while other suspects linked to the case were allegedly granted bail under questionable circumstances.

The family noted that following the incident on April 28, 2025, they had expected a prompt, transparent, and professional investigation leading to the arrest and prosecution of all persons involved.

However, they said their confidence in the process had diminished due to what they described as negligence and lack of urgency in handling the case.

The family is therefore demanding the immediate re-arrest of the escaped suspect, intensified investigations, and full disclosure from the Ghana Police Service on the status of the case.

They also called for accountability for any officers whose actions or inactions may have contributed to the escape of the suspect.

The family stressed that their actions were not intended to undermine the authority of the police but to seek justice for their deceased relative.

They appealed to the IGP, human rights organisations, civil society groups, traditional and religious leaders, as well as the international community, to take a keen interest in the matter to ensure justice is served.

Mr Edem Viglo, the Convenor of the press conference, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that although the family remained committed to lawful and peaceful means, they would be compelled to take further action if their concerns were not addressed within 14 days.

He said the proposed occupation of the Ketu Divisional Police Command would be a last resort to draw attention to their demands.

Mr Viglo noted that growing frustration among the youth in Aflao over the handling of the case could escalate if authorities failed to act promptly.

He, however, emphasised that the family did not support violence or lawlessness and was only seeking justice through appropriate channels.

The late Christopher Ahordo was described as a hardworking businessman whose death has left his family and the community in grief.

The family reiterated its resolve to pursue justice until all those responsible for the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.

Suspects arrested in NACOC anti-drug raids in Accra and Oti https://www.adomonline.com/nacoc-arrests-suspects-in-anti-drug-raids-across-accra-and-oti/ Mon, 18 May 2026 10:34:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663148 The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a number of suspects and confiscated quantities of illegal drugs following a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations across parts of Greater Accra and the Oti Region.

In a statement issued on May 18, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the intelligence-led operations were executed over the weekend as part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse nationwide.

The Greater Accra operations zeroed in on identified drug dens in Kissieman, Dome, and Kwabenya, while a separate operation was simultaneously conducted at Alavanyo in the Oti Region.

According to NACOC, quantities of suspected narcotic substances and other materials believed to be connected to drug-related activities during the exercises were recovered during the exercise. All arrested suspects remain in custody, assisting investigators as the Commission prepares to pursue prosecution.

The Commission, however, did not disclose the number of individuals arrested, the specific types of drugs seized, or the quantities involved. The identities of officers who participated in the operations were also not released.

The weekend operations are the latest chapter in a broad anti-drug campaign NACOC has been prosecuting across Ghana throughout 2026.

Earlier in the year, the Commission mounted a four-day operation spanning Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, resulting in the arrest of suspected drug dealers in Ashaiman and the seizure of cannabis, hashish, hashish oil, and cannabis-infused products — including drinks and toffees — from areas including Circle, Avenor, and Labadi. At the time, NACOC sounded the alarm over a troubling trend of drug dealers packaging narcotics in forms designed to appeal to young people and unsuspecting consumers.

On May 1, 2026, the Commission extended its campaign to Winneba ahead of the Aboakyiri Festival, targeting known drug hotspots in the Effutu Municipality. The exercise resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of suspected narcotics.

A day earlier, on April 30, 2026, NACOC intercepted a 40-foot trailer transporting approximately five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg, believed to be destined for Niger. Four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the haul, which investigators suspect forms part of a wider cross-border drug trafficking network.

Soldier, 5 security operatives granted GH¢2m bail over alleged assault https://www.adomonline.com/soldier-5-security-operatives-granted-gh%c2%a22m-bail-over-alleged-assault/ Mon, 18 May 2026 07:30:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663033 The Accra Circuit Court One has granted bail of GH¢2 million each with three sureties to a soldier and five security operatives accused of assaulting a Chinese national.

The court ordered that all sureties must be justified with proof of residence, while one surety for each accused person must provide landed property within the court’s jurisdiction valued at not less than the bail amount.

The accused persons were also directed to report to investigators every Wednesday and Friday.

In addition, they are to deposit their passports with the Court Registry and are barred from travelling outside the court’s jurisdiction.

Lance Corporal Benjamin Agyekum, together with Mahama Iddrisu, Dauda Seidu, Isaac Ofori, Adom Bills, Hayford Boafo, and Ato McHenry, all denied charges of conspiracy to form an illegal group and assaulting the victim.

They also denied being members of an organised criminal group.

The accused persons are expected to reappear before the court on June 5, 2026.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Issah Achiburi earlier told the court that the complainants were police officers from the Accra Central Regional Police Command.

According to the prosecution, Lance Corporal Agyekum, 32, is a serving military officer with the 5th Infantry Battalion at Burma Camp in Accra.

The other accused persons — Iddrisu, 48, Seidu, 35, Ofori, 32, Bills, 47, Boafo, 48, and McHenry — are self-styled security operatives allegedly linked to the National Security Secretariat.

ASP Achiburi said that on May 6, 2026, at about 12 noon, police received a distress call alleging that the accused persons, dressed in military and immigration uniforms and travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GW 8887-V, had stormed the SI Jun Toiletries Manufacturing Company at Akwakwa near Mankrong Nkwanta in the Central Region.

The prosecution said the accused persons allegedly handcuffed workers and subjected them to severe beatings.

Police officers who proceeded to the scene rescued the victims and arrested the accused persons, the court heard.

According to ASP Achiburi, investigations revealed that the accused persons admitted entering the premises of the company, owned by a Chinese national, claiming they were members of a National Security Monitoring and Evaluation Team.

However, they allegedly failed to provide any form of identification to support the claim.

Police say investigations are ongoing.

Abu Trica released after meeting bail conditions https://www.adomonline.com/abu-trica-released-after-meeting-bail-conditions/ Sat, 16 May 2026 10:33:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2662652 Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, a suspect indicted for his alleged involvement in romance scams and money laundering, was released from custody on Friday, 15 May 2026, after successfully meeting the stringent bail conditions set by the High Court.

His release marks a significant development in the legal saga that has captivated the Ghanaian public since his arrest in late 2025.

He was granted bail in the sum of GH₵30 million with two sureties in April 2026.

Abu Trica was apprehended on 11 December 2025 in a high-stakes joint operation between Ghanaian security agencies and United States law enforcement. The unsealed indictment against him reads like a digital age thriller; authorities allege he was a key figure in an international cybercrime syndicate that defrauded elderly Americans of more than $8 million.

Investigators claim the group utilised sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to craft deceptive online profiles. These “digital ghosts” were used to build deep emotional trust with victims through romance scams before soliciting massive sums of money under various pretexts.

The road to Friday’s release was paved with multiple failed attempts by the defence team to secure bail. Abu Trica currently faces charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy—offences that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in a US federal prison.

A major turning point in the defence’s strategy occurred when two other individuals initially linked to the case, Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo, were cleared by prosecutors due to a lack of evidence.

Before his arrest, Abu Trica was a fixture on Ghanaian social media, frequently showcasing a lavish lifestyle characterised by expensive vehicles and high-end real estate. While his supporters have viewed his success as the result of his business acumen, the prosecution maintains that this wealth was built on the proceeds of cyber fraud.

The case has divided public opinion, sparking intense debate among celebrities and influencers regarding the balance between “due process” and the international fight against cybercrime.

Legal analysts are quick to point out that Friday’s release does not signal the end of the road. Abu Trica remains subject to strict reporting requirements and potential travel restrictions as the extradition request from US authorities remains on the table.

The High Court’s decision essentially allows the defence to fight the extradition process from outside the confines of a cell.

As the AI-romance scam case moves into its next phase, all eyes will be on whether the Ghanaian courts will ultimately greenlight his transfer to stand trial in the United States.

The court, presided over by Her Ladyship Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, heard that the incident occurred after the suspect, who lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim, lured the child with toffee into his room on May 9, 2026.

According to police, led by ASP Godwin Nornoo of the Awutu Bawjiase District Command, the girl was later assaulted after entering the suspect’s room. She reportedly disclosed the incident to her parents, who immediately lodged a complaint with the police, leading to his arrest.

During court proceedings, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge. The court subsequently convicted and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment.

The case was confirmed in court proceedings, with journalist Kofi Adjei reporting from the courtroom.

They are said to have engaged in misconduct during last week’s 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Following their admission of guilt when they were arraigned before the Twifo Praso District Magistrate Court presided over by Cephas Atidzoe, they were convicted and fined GH¢3,000 each, reports Joana Kumi.

If they default in paying the fine, they will spend one-year in prison, the court ordered.

David Kwabena Mensah, Ruth Ampah, Millicent Marfo, and Kennedy Anokye, were found to have engaged in acts that breached examination regulations at different centres in the district.

Two of them were teachers who accompanied their students to the examination centres, and the remaining two were teachers who were engaged by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) as invigilators.

All four admitted the offences levelled against them when they appeared before the court presided over by Cephas Atidzoe.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Joseph Kusah, told the court that they were implicated in separate cases of examination-related misconduct.

David Kwabena Mensah was punished for unlawfully circulating examination content after he captured portions of an examination paper with his mobile phone and distributed the material through WhatsApp.

That conduct violated provisions of the law regulating the handling and confidentiality of examination materials under the West African Examinations Council Act, 2006.

Ruth Ampah on her part was found culpable for improperly aiding candidates during the examination.

She provided answers to students verbally while the examination was in progress, an act prosecutors described as a serious breach of examination rules and criminal law.

Millicent Marfo and Kennedy Anokye were convicted for jointly keeping examination papers unlawfully at the Twifo Praso Senior High School examination centre.

The court held that the pair acted in violation of laws relating to unauthorized possession of examination materials and conspiracy to commit an unlawful act.

Speaking at a press briefing, CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the suspect, identified as Wisdom Tetteh, was arrested in Togo on April 30, 2026, through an Interpol operation while allegedly attempting to dispose of the deceased’s mobile phone.

She disclosed that the suspect was later handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Aflao border and transported to the CID headquarters to assist with investigations.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly lured the deceased to his residence on April 6, 2026, under the guise of a vehicle sale. Police say he later attacked the victim and inflicted fatal head injuries on him.

DCOP Donkor stated that the suspect allegedly sold the deceased’s Hyundai Elantra, valued at GH¢172,000, and received part payment of GH¢18,000.

She further revealed that the suspect allegedly transported the body to Atomic Junction, removed the vehicle’s number plate and set both the car and the body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting with inquiries.

The CID Director-General also noted that the extent of burns on the deceased’s body made immediate identification difficult, compelling investigators to obtain DNA samples from family members to confirm his identity.

Three arrested in connection with international child sexual abuse material investigation https://www.adomonline.com/three-arrested-in-connection-with-international-child-sexual-abuse-material-investigation/ Tue, 12 May 2026 16:14:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661308 The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Ghanaians over their alleged involvement in the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material following a joint international investigation involving the Australian Federal Police and Interpol.

The arrests are linked to an ongoing child exploitation case involving an Australian suspect currently standing trial in Australia.

Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, May 12, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the suspects were arrested for allegedly taking, producing, publishing and processing indecent images and videos involving children.

According to her, Interpol Accra received intelligence in January 2026 from Interpol Canberra and the Crimes Against Children Unit of the Interpol General Secretariat concerning a child exploitation case connected to Ghana.

She explained that intelligence shared by the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation Victim Identification Team revealed that an Australian suspect arrested in 2025 had allegedly received child sexual exploitation material from individuals based in Ghana.

The CID boss further disclosed that investigators established that the Australian suspect transferred money to facilitators in Ghana in exchange for exploitative material involving children.

“The Australian authorities subsequently requested assistance from the Ghana Police Service to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects,” she stated.

Further investigations by Interpol Accra, together with the Child Digital Forensics and Cybercrime Units under the supervision of the CID Headquarters, led to the arrest of two suspects in the Ashanti Region and the rescue of two children aged between seven and 13 years.

Police later arrested a third suspect in the Bono Region, where two more victims aged six and seven years were rescued.

All three suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations, while the rescued children are currently receiving care from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in their respective regions.

The Abuse Relief Corps, a non-governmental organisation, is also supporting DOVVSU with counselling and other care services for the children.

Commissioner Donkor disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest some of the suspects are close relatives of the victims, including an older brother and a mother responsible for the children’s care.

She described child sexual abuse as a serious criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 penalty units, imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both.

She also warned that cyber-enabled child exploitation crimes are increasing due to the ease with which offenders commit such crimes, the difficulty in detecting them, and the financial gains involved.

The CID Director-General assured the public that the Ghana Police Service is strengthening collaboration with international partners and stakeholders to tackle child exploitation and abuse.

She also announced plans for a nationwide sensitisation campaign and the establishment of more cybercrime and child protection units across the country.

Hemang youth hunt for man accused of defiling teenage boys after police bail https://www.adomonline.com/hemang-youth-hunt-for-man-accused-of-defiling-teenage-boys-after-police-bail/ Tue, 12 May 2026 11:30:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661218 Tension is mounting in the Hemang community in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region as some angry youth launch a manhunt for a 34-year-old man accused of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with teenage boys in the community.

According to residents, the suspect was initially arrested and handed over to the police at the Kodie District Police Command for investigations and possible prosecution.

However, the youth are outraged after the suspect was reportedly granted police bail and allegedly returned to the community.

The angry youth claim the suspect’s continued presence in the area is creating fear and provoking residents.

Speaking to the media, a Unit Committee member identified as Seth said the community would not tolerate such behaviour, describing it as unacceptable and against the cultural values of Hemang.

“We understand the police have the legal right to grant bail, but the people in this community do not feel comfortable living with him here. That is why some residents are searching for him to drive him out of the community,” he stated.

Seth further disclosed that the community currently has no substantive chief or traditional council to handle such matters, a situation he said has contributed to residents taking matters into their own hands.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended by residents on Monday, May 11, 2026, after allegations emerged that he had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with one of the teenagers for the past six months.

Meanwhile, residents are calling on the police to expedite investigations into the matter to prevent any possible outbreak of violence or acts of mob justice in the community.

Police have not yet to officially comment on the incident.

According to the victim’s account, she was in a vehicle with a man when two men approached them. It remains unclear whether the pair were engaged in intimate activity at the time of the incident.

The woman alleged that the two men forcibly dragged her out of the vehicle while she was naked and physically assaulted her as they recorded videos of the incident, despite her pleas.

She further claimed that the man she was with stepped out of the vehicle, spoke with the suspects and subsequently left the scene.

“I believe he gave them something [money] so they didn’t release his video and they left him,” she said.

According to the victim, one of the suspects later obtained her phone number and contacted her, demanding sex in exchange for deleting the footage. She alleged that he threatened to release the video publicly if she refused.

She said she later agreed to meet the man but managed to escape from him after he allegedly attempted to rape her.

The videos were subsequently circulated online.

At the time of filing this report, police had commenced investigations and dispatched officers to track down and arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, reports reaching JoyNews indicate that the victim allegedly attempted to take her own life following the incident and the subsequent public embarrassment.

The arrested individuals comprise 46 males and four females. Preliminary screening of the suspects revealed a multinational criminal network, with nationalities including 25 Ghanaians, 13 Nigerians, 9 Nigeriens, 1 Malian, 1 Togolese, and 1 Burkinabe.

Two of the suspects have been identified as the kingpins within the criminal network: Abigail Oko, aged 26, and Mohammed Zaya, a Nigerien national.

Additionally, suspects Yusif Abubakar, aged 25, and Amadu Alfani, aged 43, both Nigerien nationals, were identified as shop owners engaged in the sale and distribution of narcotic substances within the bustling market.

The operation, led by the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Special Operations Team yielded a significant haul of illicit drugs and related materials.

Items recovered include two hundred and thirty boxes of Tramadol valued at GH¢130,000; 49 boxes of wrappers valued at GH¢26,000; ten parcels of Indian hemp valued at GH¢15,000; 13 boxes of crushers; mobile phones; scissors; knives; and other suspected narcotic-related materials.

The estimated street value of the recovered exhibits amounts to GH¢200,000.

All 50 suspects, together with the recovered exhibits, have been conveyed to the National Operations Directorate Headquarters for further investigation and necessary action.

The operation marks one of the largest single anti-narcotics sweeps in the Madina area this year and underscores the IGP’s Special Operations Team’s focus on market centres and public spaces where drug peddling has become increasingly brazen.

The Ghana Police Service has served notice that it will continue to conduct targeted operations against the supply, distribution, and peddling of narcotic substances in markets, communities, and public spaces across the country.

The IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno has commended all officers involved in these operations, stating that their dedication and professionalism remain central to the success of the service’s crime-fighting efforts.

The police have also expressed gratitude to members of the public who continue to support operations with credible and timely information.

Authorities have indicated that the suspects will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded, and efforts are ongoing to trace the broader supply networks feeding into the Madina Market drug trade.

The arrests, made on April 29-30, 2026, following sustained intelligence operations in Kumasi, bring the total number of persons in custody for the murder to four. The newly arrested suspects are Osman Moro alias Thiago, aged 20; Akum Kojo Junior; Moro Sule alias Moro Aboboyaa; and John Adoko alias Carter.

According to police sources, suspect Akum Kojo Junior has admitted to the murder. In his confession, he disclosed that on April 24, 2026, he went to the deceased’s workplace, where he disconnected and replaced the closed-circuit television camera server with the assistance of suspect Moro Sule.

Akum Kojo Junior then led police to Daban New Site in Kumasi, where the CCTV server was successfully retrieved from its concealed location.

The suspect further disclosed that he had taken possession of the deceased’s iPhone 17 Pro Max and Tecno mobile phones following the killing. He later gave the iPhone to suspect Osman Moro alias Thiago at Kaase, and the Tecno mobile phone to suspect Moro Sule.

Acting on this information, police proceeded to Kaase in Kumasi, where Osman Moro was identified and arrested. The suspect then led officers to a nearby bush, where the deceased’s iPhone 17 Pro Max, wrapped in a brown envelope and covered with fresh leaves, was recovered from a hole he had dug in the ground.

Investigations were extended to Aprabong near Dompoase, a suburb of Kumasi, where suspect Moro Sule was arrested. The deceased’s Tecno mobile phone was retrieved from him. Moro Sule was identified by Akum Kojo Junior as the individual who assisted in replacing the CCTV camera server at the victim’s workplace.

Suspect John Adoko alias Carter, has also admitted to driving the deceased’s vehicle to the location where it was later abandoned.

All suspects are currently in police custody. The recovered exhibits, including the CCTV server, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the Tecno mobile phone, have been retained for evidential purposes.

Police have disclosed that efforts are actively underway to arrest two other suspects mentioned in connection with the case: one identified only as Zuzu Adrama, described as the killer, and Vipul Jetpur Vijay, known as Taruu.

The murder of the Indian national has raised concerns among the foreign business community in the Ashanti Region, though police have assured that significant progress has been made in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Court remands two over unlawful possession of arms https://www.adomonline.com/court-remands-two-over-unlawful-possession-of-arms/ Wed, 06 May 2026 07:40:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2659025 The Accra Circuit Court One has remanded two men over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The pair, Musah Aguruba, a carpenter, and Issah Awuni, a farmer, both residents of Bawkzua, denied conspiring to possess a G3 assault rifle and quantities of live ammunition without lawful authority.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Nyamekye told the Court that the complainants were military personnel deployed for a peace enforcement operation in the Bawku Municipality.

He said Aguruba and Awuni were arrested following a shooting incident.

DSP Nyamekye said on April 27, 2026, at about 1400 hours, unknown gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic among residents.

He said the military personnel proceeded to the scene upon hearing the gunshots, but the suspects fled upon sighting them.

The prosecutor said the personnel pursued and arrested the accused persons at a mosque in Bawkzua.

A search conducted at the mosque in their presence revealed one G3 assault rifle with serial number G3COF28516, two magazines each loaded with 20 rounds of G3 ammunition, and 176 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

He said that during the investigation, the accused denied the offence and claimed they had gone to the mosque to pray.

They stated that the mosque was open and suspected that an unknown person might have hidden the weapons there.

DSP Nyamekye said investigations were ongoing to verify the claims.

The Court remanded Aguruba and Awuni into custody to reappear on May 14, 2026.

Man lynched in Kpandai over witchcraft accusation https://www.adomonline.com/man-lynched-in-kpandai-over-witchcraft-accusation/ Tue, 05 May 2026 13:26:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2658736 The family of a 33-year-old man allegedly killed over accusations of witchcraft at Tengelento-Buradeni in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region is demanding swift police action and justice.

The deceased, identified as Nteja Ibotul, was reportedly attacked on April 15, 2026, following claims that he had spiritually caused the death of an elderly member of the community.

According to the family, a soothsayer invited during the funeral rites allegedly accused Ibotul of being responsible for the death, heightening tensions in the community and forcing him to flee the area.

While leaving the community, he was allegedly attacked by unidentified assailants who inflicted severe head injuries and left him by the roadside.

He was taken to the Kpandai District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the ECG Hospital morgue pending investigations.

The Assembly Member for the area, Joshua, who confirmed the incident told Graphic Online, that he initially received information suggesting it was a road accident.

“I had a call from someone reporting a lifeless body on the road. We rushed to the scene but realised it was not an accident. The victim was sent to the Kpandai District Hospital, where he passed,” he said.

The family has, however, expressed frustration over what it describes as delays in police action nearly two weeks after the incident.

A relative told Graphic Online that before his death, Ibotul mentioned five individuals as his attackers, and their names were subsequently submitted to the police to aid investigations.

“Since then, we have not heard anything from the police,” the relative said, expressing fears that the case could be abandoned.

Meanwhile, the police say the family has not been fully cooperating with investigators to facilitate a speedy probe, particularly regarding arrangements for a post-mortem examination.

According to the police, delays by the family in helping to identify suspects named in their statements are also hampering efforts to make arrests.

“Though the police are working with intelligence to make arrests, they do not carry out hasty arrests without properly identifying suspects and establishing sufficient evidence for prosecution,” they stated.

The District Chief Executive for Kpandai, Haruna Abdul-Karim, who also chairs the District Security Council (DISEC), condemned the incident and described it as a criminal act that must be thoroughly investigated.

“Crime has no place in our society. What happened is purely murder under the laws of Ghana, and anyone found culpable must be prosecuted,” he said.

Mr Abdul-Karim urged the police to intensify investigations and appealed to community members to volunteer credible information to support the investigative process.

He also called on individuals named in connection with the incident to report to the police and assured them that DISEC would support the police to carry out their mandate without fear or compromise.

Two cocoa clerks arrested for allegedly short-changing farmers in Dormaa https://www.adomonline.com/two-cocoa-clerks-arrested-for-allegedly-short-changing-farmers-in-dormaa/ Tue, 05 May 2026 08:28:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2658606 The police have arrested two cocoa Purchasing Clerks (PCs) in the Dormaa Municipality of the Bono Region for allegedly short-changing cocoa farmers.

The suspects, Robert Owusu, 63 years, and Kumi Acheaw, 45 years, and PCs for the Yonkopa Company Limited, allegedly bought the beans from farmers at prices below the approved producer price.

Addressing a news conference in Sunyani, Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, explained that the suspects were picked up by police intelligence, adding that investigations were ongoing to prosecute them.

He said buying cocoa beans below the producer price was detrimental to farmers and the cocoa sector, and could also undermine confidence in the government, as the nation put in place interventions to boost the cocoa sector.

Mr Akwaboa said that the government had made adequate funds to ensure that farmers were paid approved prices, saying that: “The actions of the suspects often create the false impression that the government is indebted to farmers, when in fact the problem lies with non-compliant PCs”.

“Some of the PCs are not doing the right thing. When the funds are released, they fail to pay the farmers accordingly”, the regional minister worried, saying the security services had intensified monitoring to identify and apprehend other offenders.

Mr Akwaboa called on stakeholders in the cocoa value chain to “act patriotically and uphold integrity in their dealings”, saying that: “We are building a country together, and let us be patriotic and ensure fairness to our farmers”.

Mr Joseph Agyemang, a cocoa farmer at Dormaa-Kokroasua, who shared his experience, said that he sold some beans on January 18 and February 2, 2026, the PCs paid him the new producer price.

According to WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, the suspects were picked up for various irregularities, although full details are yet to be released.

“There have been some incidents so far. About four or five people have been picked up already,” the official disclosed, adding that names and specifics will be made public once investigations are complete.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Monday, May 4, Mr Kapi, acknowledged that despite tightened supervision and invigilation measures, cases of malpractice persist, prompting the council to adopt additional strategies to curb the trend.

These include extensive briefing sessions for examination officials—ranging from district directors to invigilators—aimed at reinforcing the consequences of malpractice and the importance of integrity in the examination process.

The council also highlighted broader community involvement in tackling the issue, noting that stakeholders such as education directors, traditional leaders, politicians, and opinion leaders are being engaged to discourage the practice.

The two – Sumaila Munkaila and Umaro Musah, who the police said had attempted to escape, had sustained injuries when the police repelled the attack.

They were taken to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the shootout, the team proceeded with the search and recovered one CZ805 assault rifle marked CO74258 loaded and ready with 14 rounds of 5.56x39mm ammunition, one AK 47 assault rifle loaded and ready with 28 rounds of 7.62x39mm with additional 28 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, totaling 56 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, one pump action gun with six (6) rounds of “BB” cartridges and one single barrel gun, concealed in sacks and buried underground.

A police situational report, a copy of which has been seen by Graphic Online said four jacket attires were also recovered “and the same were identified by the suspects as the attire they used to commit the robberies”.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command had gathered intelligence on suspect Sumaila Munkaila, alias Guda, as a wanted man in connection with a series of roadblock robberies along the Obuasi and Manso–Nyinahin stretch in the Ashanti Region, and was believed to be hiding in Tamale in the Northern Region.

“An intelligence-led operation was conducted on 25/04/2026 at Tamale, led by senior officer and other ranks. About 20:55 hours, at Vitin in Tamale, suspect Sumaila Munkaila, alias Guda, aged 37, was arrested.  The report explained that the police team returned fire in self-defence, during which both suspects, Sumaila Munkaila and Umaro Musah, sustained gunshot injuries.

“In the process, an officer also sustained minor injury and is currently receiving treatment. The other suspect believed to have sustained gunshot wounds managed to escape.

“The injured suspects were rushed to the Tamale Government Hospital for medical treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officer on duty.

The suspects, 42-year-old Sadic Wemah and 39-year-old Senbeti Karim, were picked up while travelling in an unregistered white Toyota Highlander along the New Longoro–Weila stretch of the Kintampo–New Longoro road.

Banker in court over GH¢12m theft from customer’s account granted bail https://www.adomonline.com/banker-in-court-over-gh%c2%a212m-theft-from-customers-account-granted-bail/ Fri, 24 Apr 2026 12:09:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655434 A relationship manager at a private bank, Christopher Arthur, has been arraigned before a Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢12 million from a businessman whose accounts he managed.

The accused is said to have diverted part of the funds for personal use, including spending about GH¢600,000 on online betting, while allegedly forging bank statements to conceal the transactions. Some assets, including vehicles and cash believed to be proceeds of the crime, have since been retrieved.

Investigations indicate that portions of the misappropriated funds were channelled into sports betting, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend alleged accomplices.

Appearing before His Honour Eyram Fumey on Thursday, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing. He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢12 million with four sureties, three of whom must be justified.

The bail was granted after his lawyers, led by Samuel Laryea, applied for it, with the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Larwer, not opposing the request. The court further directed the prosecution to file disclosures ahead of the next adjourned date, with the case scheduled for a Case Management Conference on May 26.

Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Larwer said the complainant, a businessman, opened three accounts at the Haatso branch of the bank in 2023, which were assigned to the accused to manage for his company.

According to the prosecution, the complainant detected irregularities in January 2026 and alerted the accused. Further checks revealed that GH¢12 million had allegedly been misappropriated from the accounts.

On March 8, 2026, the accused reportedly produced an internally generated bank statement to the complainant, which was later found to be forged. Subsequently, he is said to have refunded GH¢94,000 in cash and an additional GH¢1,195,900 on March 12, 2026.

The matter was reported to the police at Baatsonaa on March 25, 2026, leading to the arrest of the accused.

During investigations, the accused allegedly admitted to the offence and indicated that the scheme began in April 2025 with the assistance of accomplices based in Kumasi. The prosecution named them as Gyamfua Obaayaa and Abigail Thelma.

Investigators traced some transactions to accounts held with two other banks (name withheld), through which amounts totalling hundreds of thousands of cedis were allegedly siphoned.

Further probes led to the retrieval of a Toyota Corolla, a Hyundai Elantra and an Apple laptop, believed to have been acquired with proceeds of the crime. An additional GH¢481,800 in cash was also recovered.

The prosecution further disclosed that other accounts in two different banks, were allegedly used to withdraw up to GH¢7.5 million from the complainant’s funds.

Investigations also revealed that GH¢600,000 of the stolen money was spent on sports betting.

Police say efforts are underway to obtain further court orders to access additional account records and to arrest other suspects believed to be involved in the scheme. The case remains under investigation.

Kumasi-based beautician allegedly beaten to death by boyfriend secured space for Accra branch 3 days before death https://www.adomonline.com/kumasi-based-beautician-allegedly-beaten-to-death-by-boyfriend-secured-space-for-accra-branch-3-days-before-death/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 16:08:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655160 It has emerged that a 33-year-old popular beautician who was allegedly beaten to death by her businessman boyfriend had secured a space in Accra as part of the expansion of her cosmetic business.

The family says Sally Benson paid for accommodation closer to a space she identified for her cosmetics business in Accra at the West Hills Mall area three days before her death.

Sally’s father, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, tells adomoyonline.com her daughter, whom he described as a “serious workaholic,” was in the final stages of opening a new branch for her business in Accra as she traveled to the New Weija area on Saturday, 11th April 2026, to secure an apartment and finalize the location for her new shop.

But as destiny may have it, Sally Benson was allegedly beaten to death on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, three days after those transactions.

Apostle Oppong and other siblings of Sally Benson welcomed her into the family house when she last visited.

“She came to me around West Hills Mall area, New Weija. Yes, so this is how far; that’s just the Saturday, and then the Tuesday is where this unfortunate incident happened.”

According to the police, Sally, in the company of a female friend, had gone to the residence of her boyfriend, the main suspect in the case, after receiving information that another woman had visited him.

Despite the suspect’s absence, the deceased and her friend waited until the suspect returned and confronted him with the information.

Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare, a police prosecutor, said it was during the ensuing altercation that Arthur allegedly assaulted her repeatedly.

Sally allegedly collapsed, after which Arthur transported her in her own vehicle to the KNUST Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her businessman boyfriend, Francis Arthur, has been arrested and charged provisionally with murder before the Asokore Mampong District Court.

But reflecting on the life of the proprietor of Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special pub in the Asokwa area, Apostle Oppong said he always held her up because she had become example to young ones in the family with her hard work exploits.

“She was so determined,” Apostle Oppong said, reflecting on her drive.

“When she set her mind to something, she did it. I always held her up as an example to the younger ones to be self-starters and not depend on others,” he added.

“She was so determined,” the associate shared, reflecting on her drive.

“When she set her mind to something, she did it. I always held her up as an example to the younger ones—to be self-starters and not depend on others.”

Beyond her professional ambition, he said Sally would be remembered for her vibrant and social personality.

“She was open, sociable, just a very determined person in life,” he added.

Sally Benson’s boyfriend, aged 48 who is currently remanded into police custody expected to assist police investigations as he returns to court for the second time on May 8, 2026.

The Court also ordered Emmanuel Oppong Krah to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for three years.

Krah, a security man at Sentuo Oil Refinery, pleaded guilty to three charges: offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace, publication of false news, and threat of death.

He would serve a three‑year jail term if he fails to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Samuel Delight Yeboah told the Court, presided over by Akosua Atta Nyarko, that on March 14, 2026, at about 1501 hours, the accused published false and offensive statements on a WhatsApp group platform known as “Hot Issues.”

He said the accused made derogatory remarks about Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the MP, describing his speech in demeaning terms.

The prosecutor said Krah further alleged that radio stations owned by the MP were engaged in illegal electricity connections and failed to pay for power consumed.

According to Chief Inspector Yeboah, the publication circulated widely within the community, causing public concern and disaffection.

Mr Maxwell Anti, the General Manager of the radio stations, who was also accused of bribing officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana, therefore lodged a complaint with the Akim Oda Police.

The prosecutor said investigations, including engagements with officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana, established that the allegations made by the accused were false and baseless.

On April 17, 2026, the police arrested Krah and arraigned him before the Court.

FDA seizes over 5,000 packs of unapproved baby diapers in Tamale crackdown https://www.adomonline.com/fda-seizes-over-5000-packs-of-unapproved-baby-diapers-in-tamale-crackdown/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 07:21:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653450 The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has confiscated more than 5,000 packs of unapproved baby diapers during an enforcement operation in the Tamale Metropolis, as part of efforts to protect public health.

The exercise forms part of the Authority’s ongoing market surveillance activities aimed at curbing the circulation of unregistered and potentially unsafe products, with particular focus on items used by infants and young children.

FDA officials conducted inspections at selected shops and market centres in the metropolis, assessing various diaper brands for registration status, proper labelling, and compliance with national safety standards.

The inspection revealed several products that were either unregistered, incorrectly labelled, or lacking FDA approval, raising concerns about their safety for consumer use.

The Authority says it will continue intensified monitoring to ensure only approved products remain on the market.

Three arrested as Police retrieve cash and suspected cocaine in Accra https://www.adomonline.com/three-arrested-as-police-retrieve-cash-and-suspected-cocaine-in-accra/ Wed, 15 Apr 2026 15:23:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651802 The Ghana Police Service has picked up three suspects following a targeted narcotics operation in Accra, carried out after receiving intelligence on a planned drug transaction.

In a statement, police said the arrests relate to suspected possession of narcotic substances and involvement in illegal drug activities within the Accra metropolis.

The operation was triggered on April 10 after intelligence reached the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police about a planned sale in Dzorwulu. Surveillance was subsequently mounted in the area.

A day later, on April 11, officers moved in and arrested two individuals—Bright Ayivor and Ifeanyi Ijeoba. Police say they were found with 22 compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, allegedly being prepared for distribution.

Interrogation of the two led investigators to a third suspect, Kwabena Botwe, believed to be a central figure in the operation.

A follow-up exercise was conducted at Caprice, where officers apprehended him during what police described as a planned exchange involving proceeds from the suspected drug deal.

The suspect later led police to his residence at Greda Estates. A search there uncovered a significant amount of cash, reportedly totalling GH¢400,000, along with a money-counting machine.

Police further disclosed that during the arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to offer an additional GH¢420,000 to officers as a bribe. The money has since been secured as evidence.

All three suspects remain in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Police say they will be arraigned before court in due course.

23-year-old illegal miner found dead at Akontanim https://www.adomonline.com/23-year-old-illegal-miner-found-dead-at-akontanim/ Wed, 15 Apr 2026 07:49:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651569 A 23-year-old man, Kwabena Agyei, suspected to have been involved in illegal mining activities, locally known as galamsey, has been found dead at Akontanim in the Dormaa East District.

The police say the incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026. Preliminary findings indicate that a report was lodged around 6:10 p.m. by the Akontanim Area Council Chairman, Bismark Ofori, who had earlier discovered the lifeless body on the outskirts of the community at about 4:30 p.m.

A police team that visited the scene found the body laid at the Akontanim chief’s palace, positioned on its back and covered with a white bedsheet. The deceased, who was wearing black shorts, had traces of muddy clay on his face and visible injuries on his chest and back, suggesting he may have been assaulted.

Investigators believe the deceased had been part of a group engaged in illegal mining when they encountered members of a taskforce from the Dormaa Traditional Area set up to combat galamsey activities, an encounter that is suspected to have led to his death.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 14, the Bono Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, through its Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, confirmed the incident.

The development sparked tension in the area later that evening. Around 7:30 p.m., a group estimated at about 70 individuals, believed to be illegal miners, blocked the main road at Kyeremasu on the Dormaa Ahenkro–Berekum highway by burning tyres and obstructing traffic.

The group reportedly attacked two police vehicles with stones and other objects, causing damage and disrupting movement. A combined team of police and military personnel later moved in to clear the road and restore order.

Tensions flared again the following morning, Tuesday, April 14, when a larger crowd, estimated at about 400 people, mounted a similar blockade on the Berekum–Dormaa road. Security personnel were deployed and succeeded in dispersing the group, restoring calm in the area.

Police say investigations into the suspected killing are ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and arrest those responsible.

The body has been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

“The command wishes to advise the public to desist from any violent acts that will jeopardise the peace of the area, while efforts are underway to get the perpetrators of the crime apprehended to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement added.

Woman, 25, in court for stealing baby at Bogoso https://www.adomonline.com/woman-25-in-court-for-stealing-baby-at-bogoso/ Sat, 11 Apr 2026 22:29:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650331 A 25-year-old unemployed woman, Helena Aba Kwansah Abakah, who allegedly stole an eight-month-old baby boy and circumcised him, has appeared before the Tarkwa Circuit Court in the Western Region.

The mother of the baby, Ms Halima Joll, told the police that circumcision was against the cultural practices of her people.

Abakah, also known as Dijah Ali, pleaded not guilty to the charge of child stealing, contrary to Section 93 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), when she was arraigned before Her Honour Mrs Bernice Mensimah Ackon on March 2, 2026.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Ahiabor, told the court that the accused allegedly stole the baby, Musah Joll, from his mother, Ms Joll, on December 24, 2025.

The case has been adjourned to April 28, 2026.

Brief facts

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Ms Joll, a 27-year-old Fulani and hairdresser, lived at Bogoso with her husband and their son.

ASP Ahiabor said the accused first met the couple on December 20, 2025, while they were passengers on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kumasi to Bogoso. After the journey, they exchanged contact numbers and kept in touch.

He added that on December 24, 2025, at about 5 p.m., the accused reportedly engaged the services of the complainant to braid her hair. She took her to St James Anglican Church at Ateikuem, Bogoso, where the braiding took place.

The prosecutor added that during the process, the accused allegedly played with the baby and later took him from the mother under the pretext of helping her work more freely.

Prosecution said later that same day, the accused took the complainant to another location in search of more customers. It was during this time that she allegedly absconded with the baby.

ASP Ahiabor said the complainant, who could only speak Fulfulde, was unable to call for help and instead rushed home to inform her husband. The couple subsequently reported the matter to the Bogoso Police Station and provided the accused’s phone number to aid investigations.

On January 14, 2026, the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service tracked the number to Prestea, where the accused was arrested. The missing child was found with her and rescued.

The complainant later identified her son but noticed that he had been circumcised, an act against her cultural practices.

A medical report from the Bogoso Government Hospital, presented to the court, indicated that the child’s blood level had dropped.

The prosecutor added that further investigations revealed that the accused had married one Abdulai Salu in April 2025 and had allegedly told him she was pregnant before their marriage.

Prosecution said in October 2025, the accused allegedly informed her husband that she had given birth in Kumasi, but claimed the baby had been placed in an incubator due to health complications.

She, however, failed to present the child to him despite repeated requests.

Investigators concluded that after allegedly stealing the baby on December 24, 2025, the accused presented the child to her husband as their own.

Kwansah has since been formally charged and remains before the court as proceedings continue.
