40-year-old Kwabena Kissi walked into a Santander branch in Brixton, south London, on July 5, 2022, wearing a helmet with the visor down, a face mask, and a G4S uniform from a job he had resigned from two years earlier, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

CCTV footage played in court showed staff buzzing him into the secure office, where they handed him bags of cash, believing he was on a routine collection.

Kissi calmly walked out with the money in a briefcase, changed his clothes nearby, transferred the cash into a bin bag, and left the scene in an Uber.

Prosecutor Imogen Nelson told the court that Santander’s vault manager, Otis Williams, had bagged up £256,000 for collection that day across eleven bags.

When one member of staff remarked that Kissi had arrived early, he told them he was on a new route, and no suspicion was raised at that point. Staff only grew concerned when Kissi failed to return for a second pickup and realised something was wrong once the genuine G4S courier turned up for the actual collection.

Kissi returned to Accra a day after the theft and lived here with his ailing mother for close to four years.

His scheme, however, fell apart when he returned to the UK on March 26 this year and made the mistake of booking an Uber using his real name and phone number, the same phone he had used during the 2022 heist.

Police, who had been monitoring for his return, arrested him as he landed at Gatwick Airport. He initially claimed mistaken identity, but officers matched the handset to the one used in the original fraud.

In April, Kissi admitted fraud by false representation. A second charge of possessing criminal property was dropped.

Footage played in court shows Kwabena Kissi, 40, carrying a large security briefcase and entering a Santander bank in Brixton , south London , on July 5, 2022

His lawyer, Piers Walter, told the court Kissi had gone to Ghana to care for his mother, who was in financial difficulty at the time and has since died of heart failure.

Judge Rosa Dean said she was sceptical that caring for his mother was the real reason for the trip, telling Kissi the evidence pointed to him fleeing to evade detection. She said he had exploited his “inside knowledge” of the bank’s collection routine and left staff badly shaken, though she noted she was glad none of them faced disciplinary action over the fraud.

Detective Constable Stuart Ponder, who led the Metropolitan Police investigation, said CCTV and phone evidence linked Kissi to the getaway vehicle, and that officers feared he might never return to the UK once he left the day after the heist. He said the case showed the force’s commitment to pursuing high-value thefts regardless of how long it takes.

Dada Joe Remix admits role in $4.4m romance fraud after extradition to US, agrees to pay restitution https://www.adomonline.com/dada-joe-remix-admits-role-in-4-4m-romance-fraud-after-extradition-to-us-agrees-to-pay-restitution/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 09:11:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678662 A Ghanaian national extradited to the United States has admitted his involvement in a romance and inheritance fraud conspiracy and agreed to pay approximately $4.4 million in restitution, representing the financial losses suffered by victims, as part of his plea agreement.

Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, who also goes by the name “Dada Joe Remix,” pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud last week, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Boateng was arrested in Ghana on an extradition warrant on May 27, 2025, and extradited to the United States the following month. He has remained in custody since his arrest.

According to his plea agreement, Boateng and his co-conspirators ran the fraud scheme from 2013 through March 2023, targeting elderly victims in Arizona and other parts of the United States.

Prosecutors say the co-conspirators posed as romantic partners with victims through online dating platforms, text messages and other electronic communications.

They also falsely claimed to have received an “inheritance” of gold and jewels, telling victims that taxes and other fees needed to be paid before the items could be released to them.

Boateng’s sentencing has been scheduled for September 8, 2026, before United States District Judge Angela M. Martinez.

The case involved cooperation between American and Ghanaian authorities. The U.S. Attorney’s Office credited the FBI Legal Attaché in Accra, Ghana’s Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Ghana Police Service’s INTERPOL unit for their support in securing the extradition, alongside the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs.

The FBI’s Phoenix Division, through its Sierra Vista office, investigated the case, while the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona in Tucson is prosecuting it.

Court convicts sales boy who stole GH¢353,471 from employer for ‘marriage’ https://www.adomonline.com/court-convicts-sales-boy-who-stole-gh%c2%a2353471-from-employer-for-marriage/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 06:28:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677599 A sales boy who stole GH¢353,471 from his employer under the pretext of using the money to marry has been convicted and fined by the Adentan Circuit Court, following the exposure of a wider fraud scheme involving multiple accomplices.

The convict, Alfred Mensah, was charged with stealing and pleaded guilty. The court subsequently ordered him to refund the full amount and imposed a fine of GH¢12,000, in default of which he will serve two years’ imprisonment.

Standing trial alongside him were Mary Asantewaa, a trader, and Emmanuel Okyere, a pastor, who were charged with abetment of crime, to wit, stealing, and dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Others, including Samuel Dika, Miriam Okai and 59-year-old trader Vida Yeboah, were also charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Apart from Mensah, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty. They were granted bail in the sum of GH¢353,471 each with justification.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, who led the prosecution, told the court that the complainant, Gideon Offei Tieku, is a businessman dealing in plumbing materials at Lakeside and Kantamanto. According to him, Mensah had worked with the complainant for seven years.

The prosecution said that between 2024 and 2025, the complainant detected unexplained financial losses in his business but could not immediately identify the source.

The case came to light on June 17, 2025, when the complainant arrested Mensah and handed him over to the Lakeside Community 8 Police Station after a business partner reported that he had collected plumbing materials worth GH¢56,000 without making payment.

During police interrogation, Mensah admitted the offence and stated that he had handed the stolen money to Asantewaa and Samuel Dika after informing them that he intended to marry. He claimed the two had promised to help him find a wife.

Investigations, however, revealed that Mensah was subsequently deceived into sending additional funds after being told that the supposed bride was ill and suffering from a kidney condition. The suspects allegedly further convinced him that she needed to be flown to South Africa for urgent medical treatment.

Mensah eventually transferred a total of GH¢353,471.50 through Asantewaa’s mobile money account.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Asantewaa, who implicated Dika as her accomplice. Dika was also arrested, while additional inquiries linked Okyere, Miriam Okai and Vida Yeboah as beneficiaries of the stolen funds.

The prosecution told the court that GH¢46,000 was later recovered from Vida Yeboah as part of ongoing recovery efforts.

Police probe suspected foul play after woman is found dead in Somanya https://www.adomonline.com/police-probe-suspected-foul-play-after-woman-is-found-dead-in-somanya/ Sat, 27 Jun 2026 08:06:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677281 The Somanya District Police Command has launched investigations into the death of an unidentified woman whose decomposing body was found hanging from a tree in a bush at Brigade, a suburb of Somanya, with preliminary findings pointing to possible foul play.

The body, believed to be that of a woman aged between 30 and 40 years, was discovered on Thursday after residents traced a strong foul smell in the area to a nearby bush.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the Somanya District Police Commander, ASP Nana Akomeah, said officers were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the report.

He said police found the body hanging from a tree with what appeared to be a piece of cloth tied around the neck.

According to him, the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making immediate identification impossible.

“From the look of things, we suspect foul play because there are signs that suggest the body was assaulted,” ASP Akomeah said.

He explained that investigators had begun reviewing station diaries and missing persons records because the body was believed to have remained at the location for about three weeks.

During the review, police identified a missing person report lodged on June 17 by a man searching for his wife.

The complainant was invited to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital mortuary to identify the body but confirmed that the deceased was not his wife.

ASP Akomeah said the police had also contacted the management of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) regarding a reported missing student.

However, owing to the advanced state of decomposition, the university has not been able to establish whether the deceased is the missing student.

The body has been deposited at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

The Police Commander said investigators would rely on the autopsy report to determine the cause of death and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He added that the police would collaborate with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other relevant agencies to fumigate the area to prevent any potential public health risk.

ASP Akomeah assured the public that every effort was being made to establish the identity of the deceased and appealed to residents to report missing persons and any suspicious activities to the police to support ongoing investigations.

Police said that when they responded to the scene, the boy was found locked in a room, wearing only red shorts and covered with a cloth.

He had visible injuries, including marks on his right shoulder and swelling with dark discolouration around both eyes.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was allegedly beaten with a stick and slapped in the eyes after being accused of stealing money, including US dollars, and a Samsung mobile phone belonging to the suspect.

The boy, however, denied the allegations, telling police he had lived with the suspect since 2024 and had never stolen anything from her.

Eight arrested over renewed Nkwanta South attack https://www.adomonline.com/eight-arrested-over-renewed-nkwanta-south-attack/ Tue, 23 Jun 2026 08:50:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2675763 Eight people have been arrested following fresh outbreaks of violence in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, which claimed three lives and left several others injured.

The renewed clashes, which involved multiple gunshot casualties, raised serious security concerns in the area and forced the Ghana Police Service to deploy a special operations team to restore order.

According to Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Awal Antwi, normalcy has now been restored, with residents going about their daily lives and businesses operating peacefully once again.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, the MCE expressed relief at the improved situation thanks to the heavy security presence.

“Now calm has been restored in Nkwanta and the security is doing their work diligently. Some arrests have been made and it’s all under process. As we are speaking now, Nkwanta is calm, businesses are going on,” he said.

However, Antwi stressed the need for stronger measures to prevent the cycle of violence from continuing. He appealed to the Judicial Service to fast-track the prosecution of those arrested.

“We plead with the Judicial Service to fast-track these cases for us because sometimes the same people we arrest are sent to court, and within a week or two they are granted bail and come back jubilating,” he added.

The MCE noted that the quick granting of bail to suspects in previous incidents has weakened efforts to bring lasting peace to the municipality.

He remains hopeful that handling the current cases more swiftly will help deter future attacks and bring genuine stability to Nkwanta South.

The recovered items have since been secured and are being used as exhibits to support ongoing investigations and possible prosecution.

Court remands alleged car robber https://www.adomonline.com/court-remands-alleged-car-robber/ Wed, 17 Jun 2026 09:03:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2673726 An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a trader, Emmanuel Yaw Duku, for allegedly robbing a businessman of his Mitsubishi Montero Station Wagon valued at GH¢400,000.

Duku, 57, also known as Obed Blankson or “Cocoa Krakye,” pleaded not guilty to conspiring with two accomplices, identified as Kofi and “Air Force,” both at large, to rob Mr Joseph Bright Dankwah of his vehicle.

Prosecutors told the Court that Mr Dankwah, a businessman residing at Kasoa Domeabra, had placed his contact number on the unregistered ash-coloured vehicle he intended to sell.

On June 26, 2025, Blankson allegedly contacted him under the pretence of buying the car.

Dankwah agreed to meet Blankson at Galilea Market opposite the Ga South Municipal Assembly.

But Blankson later informed him that he was engaged at work and would send his associate, Kofi, to inspect the vehicle.

Kofi subsequently lured the complainant to an untarred road nearby, attacked him, and drove off with the car.

The matter was reported to Amanfrom Police and referred to the CID Headquarters.

Investigations revealed that the mobile number used during the robbery was switched off immediately after the incident.

On April 20, 2026, Blankson was arrested by the National Police Intelligence Directorate in connection with another car-snatching case, during which he was found in possession of a stolen Hyundai Elantra.

A search of his residence uncovered several pre-registered Telecel and Airtel-Tigo SIM cards, including the one used to contact the complainant.

During interrogation, Blankson admitted the offence and named his accomplices.

He said “Air Force” had informed him of plans to snatch Dankwah’s vehicle.

Investigators later discovered that the stolen car had been sold to another accomplice, Kofi Asante, for GH¢80,000.

On May 1, 2026, Blankson led police to Awudome car park, where the stolen vehicle was retrieved.

It had been resprayed, and its chassis number had been tampered with.

Police investigations further revealed that Blankson routinely purchased pre-registered SIM cards for fraudulent activities and discarded them after use.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects.

Police receive DNA report in murdered Immigration officer’s case, await full autopsy report  https://www.adomonline.com/police-receive-dna-report-in-murdered-immigration-officers-case-await-full-autopsy-report/ Wed, 17 Jun 2026 08:39:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2673723 The Police have informed the Adabraka District Court that they have received the DNA report in the case involving the murder of a Ghana Immigration Service officer, but are still awaiting the full autopsy report from the Police Hospital.

The victim, Stephen King Amoah, was allegedly murdered and his body partially burnt at Ashongman Estates in Accra in July 2025.

At the court on Monday, Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, leading the prosecution, said investigations were ongoing and that the full autopsy report had not yet been received.

He therefore prayed for a two-week adjournment to enable the Police to submit a duplicate docket to the Attorney-General’s Department.

The court adjourned the case to June 29, 2026, and remanded the two accused persons, Bright Aweh, also known as Highest Bright, and Thomas Zigah, into police custody.

The two have been jointly charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder. Their pleas have been preserved by the court.

Amoah went missing in July 2025 after leaving home to meet Aweh at Ashongman Estates, the prosecution said.

His partially burnt body was later found in a drain near Aboum Junction.

Police investigations linked the meeting to a financial dispute between the deceased and Aweh, following a WhatsApp exchange that reportedly contained images of cash.

Aweh allegedly claimed he had given Amoah GH¢500,000 to settle a debt and return the balance, but inconsistencies in his account led to his arrest.

A search at Aweh’s residence reportedly uncovered a camouflage outfit with suspected bloodstains and a wooden pestle wrapped in polythene.

Consequently, an earlier kidnapping charge against Aweh was dropped, and he was subsequently held in connection with the murder.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Zigah, while Police say they are pursuing a third suspect believed to be involved in the crime.

The convicts, Kwadwo Baffour, 38, a driver, and Kwame Affisah, also known as “Abedinago,” 36, were found guilty on two counts of robbery under Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The judgment was delivered on June 15, 2026.

Court documents and prosecution evidence showed that the two, armed with pump-action guns, stormed the filling station in the early hours of August 17, 2024, attacking fuel attendants on duty.

They are said to have made away with GH¢2,500 in cash and personal items valued at about GH¢200,000 during the operation.

Presiding Judge Isaac Appiatu sentenced Baffour to 20 years’ imprisonment on each count, while Affisah received 30 years on each count.

The court noted that Affisah was already serving a seven-year sentence at the Kumasi Central Prison for an unrelated offence at the time of this conviction.

Both sentences are to run concurrently, meaning the men will serve them at the Kumasi Central Prison.

Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court acquits three of attempted robbery charges https://www.adomonline.com/assin-kyekyewere-circuit-court-acquits-three-of-attempted-robbery-charges/ Sat, 13 Jun 2026 14:11:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2672430 The Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court has acquitted and discharged three men who were facing trial for attempted robbery, following a ruling by Her Honour Dora G.A. Nkumsah Eshun that upheld a submission of “no case to answer.”

The court found that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against the accused. Consequently, Her Honour ruled that the evidence presented lacked the necessary probative value to justify requiring the defendants to open a defense.

The three men, Godwin Kwabena Mensah (28), Kwadwo Frimpong (20), and Kwabena Antwi (30), were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Central North Regional Police Command.

They were accused of participating in an armed robbery that occurred in the early hours of June 25, 2025, at Assin Ntow-Krom, located in the Assin North District.

According to initial police reports, a five-man gang attacked the residence of a gold buyer and a farmer around 1:00 a.m. The perpetrators were reportedly armed with machetes and a three-barrelled pump-action gun.

During the incident, a victim, Kwabena Amos, sustained severe injuries, including a machete wound and significant facial trauma caused by being struck with the butt of a gun, which resulted in critical damage to his right eye.

His brother, Richard Kumah, managed to escape without injury.
Investigators had alleged that the suspects conducted surveillance on the community by posing as job seekers prior to the attack.

After the prosecution concluded its case, the defense counsel filed a submission of no case to answer. Upon review, the court determined that the state had not met the burden of proof required to proceed with the trial, leading to the immediate acquittal and discharge of all three defendants.

The ruling has drawn criticism from the victims and their families, who have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the outcome. They have signaled their intention to petition the Attorney-General, urging a review of the case to seek further legal action and justice for the attack.

Court gives prosecution final chance in Mamprobi Hospital baby theft case to file disclosures https://www.adomonline.com/court-gives-prosecution-final-chance-in-mamprobi-hospital-baby-theft-case-to-file-disclosures/ Fri, 12 Jun 2026 11:13:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2672135 The Gender-Based Violence Court at the Police Headquarters in Accra has given the prosecution a final opportunity to file disclosure documents in the Mamprobi Hospital baby theft case.

At the previous hearing, the Circuit Court warned that it would strike out the case if the prosecution failed to file the required disclosures.

Prosecutors, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, explained that delays in obtaining signatures from key witnesses had hampered their efforts.

“Although statements have been prepared for the complainant and her husband, they are yet to sign them,” he said.

Similarly, doctors, nurses, and security personnel expected to testify had not signed their statements.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered that a lawyer claiming to represent the hospital had requested a meeting with these witnesses before they could sign their statements, further delaying the process.

As a result, the prosecution has been unable to file disclosures for the past two months.

At Thursday’s sitting (June 11, 2026), the court urged the prosecution to use state mechanisms to ensure all witness statements were signed and filed promptly.

The court, therefore, granted what it described as a final chance for compliance.

The case has been adjourned to July 8, 2026.

In February, this year, the case drew widespread public attention following the alleged theft of a newborn from the Mamprobi Hospital.

The accused, Latifa Salifu, a 33-year-old trader, has been charged with child stealing. She has pleaded not guilty and is currently on bail set at GH¢200,000.

The complainant, Precious Ankomah, a 29-year-old trader from James Town, delivered a baby boy via caesarean section at the hospital on February 16.

According to the prosecution, the baby was later diagnosed with jaundice, and arrangements were made to transfer both mother and child to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Although the complainant was discharged the same day due to her inability to settle medical bills, she remained at the hospital with her baby.

At about 0400 hours on February 17, the accused allegedly approached the complainant, dressed in peach-coloured nurse scrubs, observed the baby, and left.

At about 0700 hours, she reportedly returned and took the baby under the pretext of administering medication, after which she disappeared.

When nurses reported for duty later that morning, they discovered the baby was missing. The complainant informed them that a woman she believed to be a nurse had taken the baby for treatment.

A search within the hospital proved unsuccessful, prompting a report to the Mamprobi Police by nurse Abigail Gudjinu.

On February 18, while investigations were ongoing, a whistle-blower alerted police that the accused had claimed she had delivered a baby at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and had been discharged the same day. This led to her arrest, during which she allegedly admitted to the offence.

Sales boy captured on CCTV cameras stealing, jailed 36 months    https://www.adomonline.com/sales-boy-captured-on-cctv-cameras-stealing-jailed-36-months/ Fri, 12 Jun 2026 07:49:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671994 A 22-year-old sales boy captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras stealing from his employer was jailed for 36 months in hard labour by the Amasaman Circuit Court.

Kwame Atta denied stealing GH¢217,000.00 from Madam Sahada, his employer and complainant, but he was found culpable.

The court, presided over by Ms Susanna Nyakotey, said in passing sentence that the prosecution had discharged its burden of proof, while Atta failed to cast doubt on it.

The court therefore convicted Atta of the offence of stealing.

The court also took into consideration his age, the fact that he was a first-time offender, and his denial of the offence until the CCTV footage was tendered and viewed in court to prove his guilt.

The court advised Madam Sahada to file a civil action to retrieve her money after Atta had completed his sentence.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dora Amoh earlier told the court that Madam Sahada was a trader and Atta is a salesperson, both residents of Adjen Kotoku.

She said in March 2025, the complainant employed the convict as a salesperson at her shop at the Adjen Kotoku onion market.

In July 2025, the complainant detected that her money box, in which she kept her savings, had been tampered with.

When she opened the box, she realised the money she had kept in it was missing.

The complainant replayed her CCTV footage and detected that it was Atta who took the money from her money box.

The complainant told the Police that the total amount stolen from her money box was GH¢217,000.00.

She also reported that after the incident, Atta stopped going to work.

The case was reported to the Adjen Kotoku Police, leading to his arrest.

During the investigation, Atta admitted to taking only GH¢1,500.00 from the box and said he intended to buy a mobile phone with it, but he did not.

After the investigation, he was charged with the offence and put before the court.

A lawyer, who announced herself as a friend of the court, pleaded in mitigation that Atta was young and a first-time offender.

She prayed for a non-custodial sentence to prevent him from being mingled with hardened criminals in prison, which she said would destroy his life.

She urged the court to allow Atta time to pay restitution, bond him to be of good behaviour, and give him a chance to repent.

She added that since Atta was not represented by a lawyer, he became terrified and confused, hence denying the offence, and pleaded with the court not to take this as defiance or lack of remorse.

Mason remanded by Assin Fosu court over alleged robbery attack on farmer https://www.adomonline.com/mason-remanded-by-assin-fosu-court-over-alleged-robbery-attack-on-farmer/ Thu, 11 Jun 2026 10:30:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671749 A 40-year-old mason has been remanded into police custody for one week by a district court in Assin Fosu over his alleged involvement in a robbery attack that left a farmer with multiple cutlass wounds.

Kofi Awuakye appeared before the Assin Fosu District Court on charges of unlawful entry, unlawful possession and use of an offensive weapon, and causing harm.

The court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, granted the prosecution’s request to remand the accused to allow police to complete their investigations.

The accused was ordered to remain in custody until June 18, 2026.

According to the prosecutor, Matilda Osaah Buabeng, the complainant, Kwabena Atta, a 35-year-old farmer from Assin Fosu, was awakened by unusual noises while asleep in his room in the early hours of October 29, 2025.

The prosecution added that Atta allegedly found Awuakye in the room, raiding his belongings while armed with a knife.

The accused allegedly attacked the complainant when he raised an alarm, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on his right shoulder, back and other parts of his body before fleeing the scene.

Although residents responded to the distress call and attempted to apprehend the suspect, he managed to escape.

Atta was subsequently issued a Police Medical Report Form, received treatment for his injuries and later submitted the endorsed medical report to assist investigations.

Efforts were made to find the suspect for several months until the complainant reportedly spotted him at the Adiembra Lorry Station in Assin Fosu on June 3, 2026.

With the assistance of members of the public, Awuakye was arrested and handed over to the police.

During interrogation, the accused denied involvement in the alleged offences. However, police said investigations linked him to the attack, leading to his arrest and arraignment before the court.

The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026.

The accused, Bismarck Kpormeno, was remanded by the court presided over by Her Honour Maame Yaa Mensah when he appeared before it.

His plea was not taken as investigations into the case are still ongoing. He is to reappear in court on June 16, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Command, Kpormeno was arrested on May 31, 2026, by personnel of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit after he allegedly failed to stop when signalled by police officers and attempted to evade arrest.

The statement said the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when officers intercepted him.

Police alleged that he attempted to flee but was pursued and arrested at Bondase.

A search conducted on the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material concealed in the container and wrapped in sellotape.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the suspected narcotic substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

The police said the suspect is assisting with investigations while the vehicle and the suspected narcotic exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to support crime prevention and detection efforts.

The coordinated exercise, carried out by the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department in collaboration with the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, targeted a 23-year-old suspect, Ali Mohammed, believed to be behind a series of violent robberies and a murder case.

According to a police statement, the operation was conducted on June 2, 2026, after intelligence indicated the suspect’s location.

Police say Mohammed was wanted in connection with the shooting and killing of Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road on April 12, 2026. He was also linked to two separate robbery incidents on the Bosomkyekye stretch of the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026, which resulted in the death of a driver’s mate.

During the operation, officers reportedly came under fire after the suspect opened fire with an AK-47 rifle.

The Police say investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected robbery syndicate who are still on the run.

The suspects being pursued have been named as Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, Suley, and others believed to be at large.

Authorities have urged members of the public to assist with information that could lead to their arrest as efforts continue to dismantle the network.

Key suspect in murder of Ashaiman MoMo agent arrested in Côte d’Ivoire https://www.adomonline.com/key-suspect-in-murder-of-ashaiman-momo-agent-arrested-in-cote-divoire/ Wed, 03 Jun 2026 16:16:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668828 A major breakthrough has been recorded in investigations into the murder of Ashaiman-based mobile money agent Atsu Bigah following the arrest of a key suspect in Côte d’Ivoire.

The suspect, who had reportedly been evading law enforcement for months, was apprehended by Ivorian authorities in a coordinated operation linked to the ongoing investigation into the killing.

Security sources indicate that arrangements are underway to extradite the suspect to Ghana to assist investigators with the case.

The arrest is expected to advance efforts to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the death of the mobile money vendor, whose killing sparked widespread concern among residents and operators in the business community.

Atsu Bigah was murdered under circumstances that drew significant public attention in Ashaiman and renewed concerns over the safety of mobile money operators, many of whom have become targets of violent crimes in recent years.

Investigators are also expected to examine the relationship between the suspect and the deceased after reports emerged that the two were known to each other and shared a close personal connection before the incident.

The suspect is expected to undergo further interrogation upon arrival in Ghana as authorities continue to build their case.

While police are yet to officially announce a timeline for the extradition process, security sources say discussions between Ghanaian and Ivorian authorities are ongoing to facilitate his return.

The arrest represents one of the most significant developments in the case since investigations began and is likely to provide fresh leads as authorities work towards securing justice for the slain mobile money agent.

Washing bay attendant remanded over alleged theft of friend’s GH¢46,306 for betting  https://www.adomonline.com/washing-bay-attendant-remanded-over-alleged-theft-of-friends-gh%c2%a246306-for-betting/ Wed, 03 Jun 2026 06:40:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668488 The Nkawie Circuit Court has remanded a 21-year-old washing bay attendant into Police custody for allegedly stealing GH¢46,306.90 from his friend and using the money for betting.

The accused, Dominic Fordjour, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing and is expected to reappear before the court on June 15, 2026.

Police Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr. Robert Addo, that the complainant, Bernard Kyei, an electrical welder, and the accused were friends and residents of Afari near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

The prosecutor said that about six months ago, Fordjour accompanied Kyei to open a savings account at the Nkawie branch of GCB Bank, where GH¢46,306.90 was deposited.

Subsequently, the complainant decided to register for a mobile money account and sought the accused’s assistance in guiding him through the registration process. During the registration, Fordjour allegedly advised Kyei to use “1957” as his security code.

Chief Inspector Gyan said on May 25, 2026, the complainant visited the bank to withdraw part of his savings but was informed that the account balance was nil.

An account statement later revealed that the entire amount had been withdrawn through a mobile money number.

Suspecting the accused, the complainant lodged a report with the Nkawie Police, leading to Fordjour’s arrest.

According to the prosecution, in his caution statement, Fordjour admitted withdrawing the money in instalments from the complainant’s bank account into his mobile money wallet whenever he needed funds.

He further told investigators that the withdrawals eventually amounted to GH¢46,306.90 and that he used the entire sum for betting activities.

Following investigations, Fordjour was charged with stealing and arraigned before the court.

Tamale High Court sentences four kidnappers to eight years each after GH¢90,000 ransom case https://www.adomonline.com/tamale-high-court-sentences-four-kidnappers-to-eight-years-each-after-gh%c2%a290000-ransom-case/ Tue, 02 Jun 2026 16:48:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668415 Four men have been convicted and sentenced to prison terms in connection with kidnapping and ransom-related offences in the Northern Region, as police intensify efforts to arrest additional suspects linked to separate abduction cases.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, disclosed the convictions at a press briefing in Tamale on Tuesday, noting that the suspects were prosecuted by the Tamale High Court Two.

He said the convicted persons — Haruna Seidu, Osman Sambo, Amadu Aminu and Hoyeefe Amadu — abducted a man at Wapuli and demanded ransom from his family.

“The accused persons were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Unit while sharing the ransom money at Bokpaba on the Yendi–Bimbilla road,” DCOP Lavoe told journalists.

According to him, the court found the four guilty of conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, causing harm and threat of death. Each was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment with hard labour, to run concurrently.

The court also ordered the auctioning of four motorbikes and four mobile phones retrieved during investigations, with proceeds to be paid into the Consolidated Fund. A sum of GH¢70,010, part of the recovered ransom, is to be returned to the complainant’s brother, Buubu Osman.

DCOP Lavoe said investigations are ongoing into other kidnapping incidents, including a case in which a teenage victim was shot.

He explained that in the Kabulya case, armed men attacked the home of Laolo Issah, assaulted two family members and abducted a boy, initially demanding GH¢100,000, later reduced to GH¢20,000.

Police, acting on intelligence, intercepted Amadu Abubakari at the Binda barrier, where GH¢20,000 in ransom money and an unregistered motorbike were retrieved. He reportedly admitted involvement and named accomplices who are currently on the run.

That victim, Ali Issah, was later found at Kpandai Government Hospital with a gunshot wound to the jaw and transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

In a separate case, police confirmed the kidnapping of 26-year-old Yahaya Issahaq on May 25 while grazing cattle in the Mion District. The abductors reportedly demanded GH¢200,000, later reduced to GH¢150,000.

DCOP Lavoe said coordinated intelligence and digital tracking efforts led to police locating the victim’s body on May 28 near River Dakar at Kpajie, close to Nakpa. He said the deceased had gunshot wounds to the chest and a chain around his neck.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that efforts were underway to arrest all persons connected to the crimes.

“The Northern Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes within the region,” he said.

Police have urged the public to support investigations by providing information through emergency numbers 191, 18555, or at the nearest police station.

The complainant left the country in May and returned in November 2025, only to be told by the accused that he had sold the goods to his customers who could not pay.

Three busted and arraigned over SIM box fraud https://www.adomonline.com/three-busted-and-arraigned-over-sim-box-fraud/ Wed, 27 May 2026 08:58:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666424 Three persons, including a female, have been busted and arraigned over alleged SIM box fraud at Sakumono in Tema West.

They are Olanrewaju Adedeji Segun, Timileyin Fakunle, and Olamide Roheemot, all of whom are data managers.

Three other accomplices, Adebowole Pelumi, Michael Taiwo, and Tommy, are said to be at large.

The accused persons are said to have fraudulently obstructed the communication of victims and obtained funds from them through mobile money payments, then systematically converted the funds into cryptocurrency and transferred them outside Ghana.

Further investigations also revealed that from June 2025 to January 2026, the accused persons and their accomplices received various sums of money from victims’ mobile accounts and transferred $700,000 in cryptocurrency.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, namely operating an electronic communication service without a license from the National Communications Authority (NCA); operating electronic communication services without a license from the NCA; possession of a quantity of unregistered SIM cards; and obstruction of communication.

Segun, Fakunle, and Roheemot, who had no legal representation, have pleaded not guilty to the various charges before an Accra Circuit Court.

The court has remanded the three accused persons into lawful custody to reappear on June 4, 2026.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alowru, prayed for their remand while investigations were underway.

The facts as narrated by the prosecution in court indicated that the complainants are police personnel stationed at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department, Operations Unit, in Accra.

The accused persons are Nigerians and residents of Sakumono, Tema West.

On January 20, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command received information that the accused persons and their accomplices, who were occupants of House Number BE 57, Celebrity Hills Avenue, Sakumono, had installed various electronic devices in their apartments.

Prosecution said they were using the electronic devices to commit SIM box fraud.

On January 22, 2026, personnel from the Regional CID Operations were dispatched to the apartments in response to a search warrant issued by the Adabraka District Court.

Prosecution said the team conducted a search in three apartments occupied by the three accused persons and found a quantity of unregistered SIM cards, 26 desktop computers, 52 SIM boxes, 1,040 assorted mobile phones, 6 internet routers, and other gadgets installed in the apartments and used for SIM box fraud.

The Prosecutor said the accused persons were arrested and identified Adebowale Pelumi and Michael Taiwo, who are currently at large, as their accomplices.

The Court was told by the prosecution that the accused persons also mentioned one Tommy, a Chinese national currently in Singapore, as their overall boss, who issued instructions to them to operate the devices.

Prosecution said an Order of Retention and Examination was issued by the Adabraka District Court, directing the Cyber Security Authority to retain and examine all the devices recovered from the accused persons’ apartments.

The Prosecutor said the Cyber Security Authority accessed the devices and found that the accused persons and their accomplices at large were operating a phone-farming scam centre, based on the configuration of the equipment and operational patterns.

Prosecution said investigations also established that the accused persons fraudulently obstructed communication with the victims, obtained funds from them through mobile money payments, systematically converted them into cryptocurrency, and transferred them outside Ghana.

The prosecution said further investigations also revealed that, from June 2025 to January 2026, the accused persons and their accomplices received various sums of money from mobile accounts of victims and transferred $700,000 into cryptocurrency.

Two arrested in connection with Nsawam filling station robbery https://www.adomonline.com/two-arrested-in-connection-with-nsawam-filling-station-robbery/ Wed, 27 May 2026 08:06:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666413 The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery attack at Kwafokrom near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The suspects, identified as Amos Boame and Collins Adjei, were arrested following the robbery incident which occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Police say a third suspect, identified only as Ashivie, is currently on the run and is being pursued for his alleged involvement in the attack.

According to the Police Command, several items believed to have been used during the robbery were retrieved from the suspects. These include an Alder Tupal pump-action gun with serial number 245A-12944, an electronic shocker, a cutlass, and a bulletproof vest.

Police further disclosed that during the robbery, the suspects allegedly shot a security officer and a pump attendant who had taken cover inside an office at the filling station.

The robbers reportedly escaped with GH¢13,460 in cash and assorted provisions whose value is yet to be determined.

A police inspection conducted at the scene also uncovered 19 spent cartridges and one live round of ammunition.

The injured victims are currently receiving treatment and are said to be in stable condition.

The Police Command says efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect and any other accomplices connected to the robbery.

Residents in the area have meanwhile been urged to remain calm as police, together with filling station managers, intensify security measures to prevent similar incidents.

Two granted GH¢200K bail each over maize fraud https://www.adomonline.com/two-granted-gh%c2%a2200k-bail-each-over-maize-fraud/ Mon, 25 May 2026 07:34:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2665652 An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 each with three sureties to two men accused of defrauding a commodity trader of 4,132 bags of maize, valued at GH¢888,380.

The Court ordered that one surety for each accused person must be justified with landed property.

Isaac Danso, 39, a freight forwarder, and Desmond Appiah, 50, a businessman, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud Mr Ibrahim Gomna.

They are expected to reappear before the Court on June 17, 2026, for a case management conference.

Chief Inspector Clement Jerry Acquah, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainant, Mr Gomna, is an entrepreneur and commodity trader.

He said Danso, also known as Oheneba and resident at Oyarifa, together with Appiah, a resident of Katamanso, met the complainant in February 2025 and introduced themselves as commodity traders.

The prosecution said Appiah informed Mr Gomna that he had customers who required 4,000 bags of maize for a poultry farm at Asutuare.

A contract was subsequently signed for the supply of 4,132 bags of maize at GHC215.00 per 50kg bag, bringing the total value to GHC888,380.00.

Chief Inspector Acquah said the accused persons allegedly delivered the maize to Merep West Farms at Asutuare, sold each bag at GHC130.00, collected the proceeds, and used the money for personal gain.

The prosecution said the accused persons subsequently went into hiding until their arrest following a complaint lodged with the police.

Chief Inspector Acquah told the Court that investigations were ongoing.

Counsel for the accused persons, in his bail application, argued that the transaction was purely business-related and that his clients had refunded GHC170,000.00 from the proceeds of the sales.

He further submitted that the accused were breadwinners with fixed places of abode and credible sureties, adding that bail would enable them to adequately prepare their defence.

The Court directed the prosecution to file and serve all necessary documents on the accused persons before the next adjourned date.

Kwaku Asamoah is accused of robbing the complainant of her handbag containing an iPhone 7 valued at GH¢1,800 and cash of GH¢27.

In his statement to the police on May 13, 2026, Asamoah admitted snatching the handbag but denied committing robbery.

He also denied the robbery charge in court.

The court remanded him into lawful custody to reappear on June 10, 2026.

Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, said the complainant, Benedicta Okaikor Addy, resided at La Apapa in Accra, while Asamoah lived at Kasoa.

On May 13, 2026, at about 1600 hours, the complainant was walking along the Soul Clinic stretch at Cantonments in Accra when Asamoah allegedly emerged from a nearby bush and ordered her to surrender her handbag containing GH¢27 and the iPhone 7, the prosecution said.

It said Asamoah grabbed the handbag, but the complainant resisted.

The court heard that Asamoah allegedly struck the complainant with a hefty blow, succeeded in snatching the handbag and fled the scene.

A passerby who reportedly witnessed the incident from a distance pursued and apprehended him.

The prosecution said that Asamoah and the handbag were subsequently handed over to the police.

In his caution statement, Asamoah admitted snatching the bag but denied the robbery allegation.

Nursing mother arrested for allegedly inflicting blade wounds on 5-year-old in Bole https://www.adomonline.com/nursing-mother-arrested-for-allegedly-inflicting-blade-wounds-on-5-year-old-in-bole/ Fri, 22 May 2026 08:40:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664919 A 35-year-old nursing mother and seamstress has been arrested by the Bole District Police for allegedly inflicting blade wounds and applying pepper on a five-year-old girl in her care at Bole Mempeasem, a suburb of Bole in the Savannah Region.

The disturbing incident was uncovered on the evening of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, when the Assembly Member for Mempeasem Electoral Area, Hassan Abu Peace Brother, discovered the injured child behind his house at around 7:00pm.

Speaking to Adom News, the Assemblyman recounted he went around trying to locate the child’s parents, as the young girl could only refer to her mother as “mama.”

After successfully locating the guardian, he pleaded with her not to harm the child after being told she always beats the child. However, by the following morning, he received a shocking call.

“An old woman told me the woman will beat the child throughout the night because that’s what she usually does so I confronted the woman but she assured me she won’t beat her. Around 6:00am this morning, however, I received a call that she beat the child and even inflicted blade wounds on her before sending her to school.”

Upon receiving the distress call, the Assemblyman immediately followed up at the child’s school and promptly alerted both the police and social welfare authorities.

School officials then invited the suspect to the premises. On her arrival, she was arrested by police. The Assemblyman has since urged parents to exercise caution when entrusting their children to the care of others.

“If you’re not ready to take care of a child, don’t give birth and hand the child over to someone… every child has the right to live. I’ll support any punishment given to the woman,” he said.

When Adom News interviewed the suspect at the Bole District Police Station, Marijana Alhassan, speaking in her native language, Waala, denied inflicting blade wounds on the child.

She clarified that the victim is not her biological daughter but her husband’s sister’s child, who comes to stay with the family whenever her mother goes on study leave.

She described the child as highly dependent, saying the girl was unable to eat, undress, or use the toilet on her own — a situation she said placed considerable strain on her.

While she admitted pushing the child away in frustration, she claimed the girl fell onto a mopping stick and sustained the injuries as a result. She said she later dressed the child and sent her to school, only to be summoned by school authorities a short while later and subsequently arrested by police upon her arrival at the school.

Marijana Alhassan remains in custody at the Bole District Police Station and is scheduled to appear before the Bole District Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Social welfare authorities are said to be actively following up on the welfare of the child, who continues to receive medical care at the Bole District Government Hospital.

Okada rider remanded over alleged theft  https://www.adomonline.com/okada-rider-remanded-over-alleged-theft/ Fri, 22 May 2026 08:03:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664912 A 24-year-old Okada rider has been remanded into police custody by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for allegedly causing unlawful damage and stealing at the Afari Military Hospital construction site.

The accused, Abukari Usman, whose plea was not taken, is expected to reappear before the court on June 2, 2026, as police investigations continue.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Robert Addo, that the complainant, Frederick Ocloo, was the Liaison Coordinator at the Afari Military Hospital construction site where the alleged offences occurred.

He said on May 17, 2026, at about 1600 hours, Prince Agyei, the Security Supervisor at the site, spotted the accused entering the premises through a nearby bush and immediately raised an alarm.

According to the prosecution, sensing danger, the accused allegedly dropped a sack containing stolen cables, the value of which is yet to be determined, and attempted to flee.

After a hot pursuit, the security supervisor apprehended him and handed him over to the complainant for further inspection at the site.

The prosecution said a subsequent inspection revealed that the padlock to one of the containers at the site, valued at GH¢200, had been damaged and some electrical cables stolen.

The accused was subsequently handed over to the Nkawie Police, where, after preliminary investigations, he was charged and arraigned before the court.

Police probe violent clash at Drobo Traditional Council Palace https://www.adomonline.com/police-probe-violent-clash-at-drobo-traditional-council-palace/ Thu, 21 May 2026 20:12:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664786 The Bono Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an incident of unlawful damage to property at the Drobo Traditional Council Palace in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region, following a violent confrontation linked to a chieftaincy dispute.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service Public Affairs Unit in Sunyani, the incident occurred on May 19, 2026, when a group of about 15 men allegedly stormed the palace wearing red bands and caused damage to the main entrance door in an attempt to take control of the facility.

The Krontihene of the Drobo Traditional Council, Nana Tanor Bediako, who made a formal complaint to the police, reported that the group arrived at about 9:10 a.m. and engaged in acts of destruction at the palace forecourt.

“A group of people numbering about 15 men besieged the Drobo Traditional Council Palace wearing red bands on their heads and caused damage to the main door of the palace with the aim of taking possession of the facility,” the statement said.

When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the damaged palace gate, with parts of the structure removed and lying on the ground.

The police also retrieved three pump-action guns loaded with 14 rounds of BB ammunition, along with a single-barrel gun, which were taken as exhibits.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident may be linked to tensions between factions within the traditional area. Members of the Bosea family, aligned with the Drobo Queen Mother, are said to have acted on information that the Omanhene was planning to install sub-chiefs.

“They indicated that their presence was to prevent him from going ahead with the installation, but they were prevented by supporters of the Omanhene,” the release noted.

The statement further revealed that a misunderstanding between supporters of the Omanhene and the Queen Mother escalated into a clash at the palace forecourt.

It also indicated that the Bosea family claims to have secured an injunction from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs for service on the Omanhene, alleging that he is evading service and has gone into hiding.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure peace is restored in the area.

The rescue operation follows ongoing investigations into a suspected child stealing and trafficking network believed to have operated across parts of the country.

According to police sources, the child was allegedly taken and sold through a syndicate involving a midwife linked to the Mother and Child Hospital at Osu and several accomplices.

The victim has since been rescued safely by investigators at Kasoa.

The latest development comes after the arrest of a midwife at the Osu Mother and Child Hospital, a retired midwife, and five other suspects who were accused of allegedly stealing and selling children across the country.

The suspects were earlier arraigned before court as investigations into the alleged trafficking network continue.

Police say investigations are still ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify possible additional victims and accomplices.

Among the accused persons is Lucinda Naomi Otchere, a midwife at Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu. The other suspects have been identified as Janet Larbie, Mary Dotse, Yvonne Twumasi, Sikena Umar, Grace Afriyie and Regina Agyeiwaa.

The deceased, identified as 37-year-old Opoku Agyemang, was reportedly stabbed to death during an argument with his landlord, Kofi Koranteng, on Tuesday.

According to reports, Opoku, a married man with three children, allegedly owed his landlord GH¢30 in electricity bills.

Sources within the community say the two men were not only in a landlord-tenant relationship but were also close friends and long-time work colleagues, making the incident even more shocking to residents.

Eyewitnesses said it remains unclear what exactly triggered the heated confrontation over the unpaid bill.

An eyewitness, Enoch Idan Danquah, said the landlord was unhappy with the way Opoku handled payment of the electricity bills and invited him into his room to discuss the matter.

However, the discussion reportedly turned violent after the landlord allegedly pulled out a machete and stabbed Opoku multiple times.

The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Kofi Koranteng, who is said to have five children, reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

The matter has since been reported to the police, while officers from the Kotoku Police Command have conveyed the body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Family of murdered Momo vendor gives IGP 14-day ultimatum, or they’ll occupy Ketu police command https://www.adomonline.com/family-of-murdered-momo-vendor-gives-igp-14-day-ultimatum-or-theyll-occupy-ketu-police-command/ Tue, 19 May 2026 15:03:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663733 The family of the late Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money vendor, who was murdered in April 2025, has given the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) a 14-day ultimatum to ensure swift action on the case or face a peaceful occupation of the Ketu Divisional Police Command at Denu-Tokor.

The warning was issued at a press conference in Aflao, where family members and concerned residents expressed frustration over what they described as delays and a lack of progress in the investigation.

They said the situation had been worsened by reports that the prime suspect, Mr Ali Tahidu, had escaped from police custody at Adale, while other suspects linked to the case were allegedly granted bail under questionable circumstances.

The family noted that following the incident on April 28, 2025, they had expected a prompt, transparent, and professional investigation leading to the arrest and prosecution of all persons involved.

However, they said their confidence in the process had diminished due to what they described as negligence and lack of urgency in handling the case.

The family is therefore demanding the immediate re-arrest of the escaped suspect, intensified investigations, and full disclosure from the Ghana Police Service on the status of the case.

They also called for accountability for any officers whose actions or inactions may have contributed to the escape of the suspect.

The family stressed that their actions were not intended to undermine the authority of the police but to seek justice for their deceased relative.

They appealed to the IGP, human rights organisations, civil society groups, traditional and religious leaders, as well as the international community, to take a keen interest in the matter to ensure justice is served.

Mr Edem Viglo, the Convenor of the press conference, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that although the family remained committed to lawful and peaceful means, they would be compelled to take further action if their concerns were not addressed within 14 days.

He said the proposed occupation of the Ketu Divisional Police Command would be a last resort to draw attention to their demands.

Mr Viglo noted that growing frustration among the youth in Aflao over the handling of the case could escalate if authorities failed to act promptly.

He, however, emphasised that the family did not support violence or lawlessness and was only seeking justice through appropriate channels.

The late Christopher Ahordo was described as a hardworking businessman whose death has left his family and the community in grief.

The family reiterated its resolve to pursue justice until all those responsible for the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.

Suspects arrested in NACOC anti-drug raids in Accra and Oti https://www.adomonline.com/nacoc-arrests-suspects-in-anti-drug-raids-across-accra-and-oti/ Mon, 18 May 2026 10:34:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663148 The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a number of suspects and confiscated quantities of illegal drugs following a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations across parts of Greater Accra and the Oti Region.

In a statement issued on May 18, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the intelligence-led operations were executed over the weekend as part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse nationwide.

The Greater Accra operations zeroed in on identified drug dens in Kissieman, Dome, and Kwabenya, while a separate operation was simultaneously conducted at Alavanyo in the Oti Region.

According to NACOC, quantities of suspected narcotic substances and other materials believed to be connected to drug-related activities during the exercises were recovered during the exercise. All arrested suspects remain in custody, assisting investigators as the Commission prepares to pursue prosecution.

The Commission, however, did not disclose the number of individuals arrested, the specific types of drugs seized, or the quantities involved. The identities of officers who participated in the operations were also not released.

The weekend operations are the latest chapter in a broad anti-drug campaign NACOC has been prosecuting across Ghana throughout 2026.

Earlier in the year, the Commission mounted a four-day operation spanning Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, resulting in the arrest of suspected drug dealers in Ashaiman and the seizure of cannabis, hashish, hashish oil, and cannabis-infused products — including drinks and toffees — from areas including Circle, Avenor, and Labadi. At the time, NACOC sounded the alarm over a troubling trend of drug dealers packaging narcotics in forms designed to appeal to young people and unsuspecting consumers.

On May 1, 2026, the Commission extended its campaign to Winneba ahead of the Aboakyiri Festival, targeting known drug hotspots in the Effutu Municipality. The exercise resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of suspected narcotics.

A day earlier, on April 30, 2026, NACOC intercepted a 40-foot trailer transporting approximately five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg, believed to be destined for Niger. Four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the haul, which investigators suspect forms part of a wider cross-border drug trafficking network.

Soldier, 5 security operatives granted GH¢2m bail over alleged assault https://www.adomonline.com/soldier-5-security-operatives-granted-gh%c2%a22m-bail-over-alleged-assault/ Mon, 18 May 2026 07:30:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663033 The Accra Circuit Court One has granted bail of GH¢2 million each with three sureties to a soldier and five security operatives accused of assaulting a Chinese national.

The court ordered that all sureties must be justified with proof of residence, while one surety for each accused person must provide landed property within the court’s jurisdiction valued at not less than the bail amount.

The accused persons were also directed to report to investigators every Wednesday and Friday.

In addition, they are to deposit their passports with the Court Registry and are barred from travelling outside the court’s jurisdiction.

Lance Corporal Benjamin Agyekum, together with Mahama Iddrisu, Dauda Seidu, Isaac Ofori, Adom Bills, Hayford Boafo, and Ato McHenry, all denied charges of conspiracy to form an illegal group and assaulting the victim.

They also denied being members of an organised criminal group.

The accused persons are expected to reappear before the court on June 5, 2026.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Issah Achiburi earlier told the court that the complainants were police officers from the Accra Central Regional Police Command.

According to the prosecution, Lance Corporal Agyekum, 32, is a serving military officer with the 5th Infantry Battalion at Burma Camp in Accra.

The other accused persons — Iddrisu, 48, Seidu, 35, Ofori, 32, Bills, 47, Boafo, 48, and McHenry — are self-styled security operatives allegedly linked to the National Security Secretariat.

ASP Achiburi said that on May 6, 2026, at about 12 noon, police received a distress call alleging that the accused persons, dressed in military and immigration uniforms and travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GW 8887-V, had stormed the SI Jun Toiletries Manufacturing Company at Akwakwa near Mankrong Nkwanta in the Central Region.

The prosecution said the accused persons allegedly handcuffed workers and subjected them to severe beatings.

Police officers who proceeded to the scene rescued the victims and arrested the accused persons, the court heard.

According to ASP Achiburi, investigations revealed that the accused persons admitted entering the premises of the company, owned by a Chinese national, claiming they were members of a National Security Monitoring and Evaluation Team.

However, they allegedly failed to provide any form of identification to support the claim.

Police say investigations are ongoing.

Abu Trica released after meeting bail conditions https://www.adomonline.com/abu-trica-released-after-meeting-bail-conditions/ Sat, 16 May 2026 10:33:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2662652 Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, a suspect indicted for his alleged involvement in romance scams and money laundering, was released from custody on Friday, 15 May 2026, after successfully meeting the stringent bail conditions set by the High Court.

His release marks a significant development in the legal saga that has captivated the Ghanaian public since his arrest in late 2025.

He was granted bail in the sum of GH₵30 million with two sureties in April 2026.

Abu Trica was apprehended on 11 December 2025 in a high-stakes joint operation between Ghanaian security agencies and United States law enforcement. The unsealed indictment against him reads like a digital age thriller; authorities allege he was a key figure in an international cybercrime syndicate that defrauded elderly Americans of more than $8 million.

Investigators claim the group utilised sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to craft deceptive online profiles. These “digital ghosts” were used to build deep emotional trust with victims through romance scams before soliciting massive sums of money under various pretexts.

The road to Friday’s release was paved with multiple failed attempts by the defence team to secure bail. Abu Trica currently faces charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy—offences that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in a US federal prison.

A major turning point in the defence’s strategy occurred when two other individuals initially linked to the case, Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo, were cleared by prosecutors due to a lack of evidence.

Before his arrest, Abu Trica was a fixture on Ghanaian social media, frequently showcasing a lavish lifestyle characterised by expensive vehicles and high-end real estate. While his supporters have viewed his success as the result of his business acumen, the prosecution maintains that this wealth was built on the proceeds of cyber fraud.

The case has divided public opinion, sparking intense debate among celebrities and influencers regarding the balance between “due process” and the international fight against cybercrime.

Legal analysts are quick to point out that Friday’s release does not signal the end of the road. Abu Trica remains subject to strict reporting requirements and potential travel restrictions as the extradition request from US authorities remains on the table.

The High Court’s decision essentially allows the defence to fight the extradition process from outside the confines of a cell.

As the AI-romance scam case moves into its next phase, all eyes will be on whether the Ghanaian courts will ultimately greenlight his transfer to stand trial in the United States.

2026 BECE: Four teachers convicted and fined GH¢3,000 each for malpractices in Twifo Praso https://www.adomonline.com/2026-bece-four-teachers-convicted-and-fined-gh%c2%a23000-each-for-malpractices-in-twifo-praso/ Wed, 13 May 2026 07:15:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661438 Four teachers have been convicted for their involvement in irregularities and examination malpractices in the Twifo Praso area of the Central Region.

They are said to have engaged in misconduct during last week’s 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Following their admission of guilt when they were arraigned before the Twifo Praso District Magistrate Court presided over by Cephas Atidzoe, they were convicted and fined GH¢3,000 each, reports Joana Kumi.

If they default in paying the fine, they will spend one-year in prison, the court ordered.

David Kwabena Mensah, Ruth Ampah, Millicent Marfo, and Kennedy Anokye, were found to have engaged in acts that breached examination regulations at different centres in the district.

Two of them were teachers who accompanied their students to the examination centres, and the remaining two were teachers who were engaged by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) as invigilators.

All four admitted the offences levelled against them when they appeared before the court presided over by Cephas Atidzoe.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Joseph Kusah, told the court that they were implicated in separate cases of examination-related misconduct.

David Kwabena Mensah was punished for unlawfully circulating examination content after he captured portions of an examination paper with his mobile phone and distributed the material through WhatsApp.

That conduct violated provisions of the law regulating the handling and confidentiality of examination materials under the West African Examinations Council Act, 2006.

Ruth Ampah on her part was found culpable for improperly aiding candidates during the examination.

She provided answers to students verbally while the examination was in progress, an act prosecutors described as a serious breach of examination rules and criminal law.

Millicent Marfo and Kennedy Anokye were convicted for jointly keeping examination papers unlawfully at the Twifo Praso Senior High School examination centre.

The court held that the pair acted in violation of laws relating to unauthorized possession of examination materials and conspiracy to commit an unlawful act.

Suspect arrested in murder of car dealer found burnt at Atomic Junction https://www.adomonline.com/suspect-arrested-in-murder-of-car-dealer-found-burnt-at-atomic-junction/ Wed, 13 May 2026 06:47:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661409 The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of 27-year-old car dealer, Yaw Osei Ashitey Amma, whose burnt body was discovered in a vehicle at Atomic Junction on the Legon bypass road on April 7, 2026.

Speaking at a press briefing, CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the suspect, identified as Wisdom Tetteh, was arrested in Togo on April 30, 2026, through an Interpol operation while allegedly attempting to dispose of the deceased’s mobile phone.

She disclosed that the suspect was later handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Aflao border and transported to the CID headquarters to assist with investigations.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly lured the deceased to his residence on April 6, 2026, under the guise of a vehicle sale. Police say he later attacked the victim and inflicted fatal head injuries on him.

DCOP Donkor stated that the suspect allegedly sold the deceased’s Hyundai Elantra, valued at GH¢172,000, and received part payment of GH¢18,000.

She further revealed that the suspect allegedly transported the body to Atomic Junction, removed the vehicle’s number plate and set both the car and the body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting with inquiries.

The CID Director-General also noted that the extent of burns on the deceased’s body made immediate identification difficult, compelling investigators to obtain DNA samples from family members to confirm his identity.

Three arrested in connection with international child sexual abuse material investigation https://www.adomonline.com/three-arrested-in-connection-with-international-child-sexual-abuse-material-investigation/ Tue, 12 May 2026 16:14:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661308 The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Ghanaians over their alleged involvement in the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material following a joint international investigation involving the Australian Federal Police and Interpol.

The arrests are linked to an ongoing child exploitation case involving an Australian suspect currently standing trial in Australia.

Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, May 12, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the suspects were arrested for allegedly taking, producing, publishing and processing indecent images and videos involving children.

According to her, Interpol Accra received intelligence in January 2026 from Interpol Canberra and the Crimes Against Children Unit of the Interpol General Secretariat concerning a child exploitation case connected to Ghana.

She explained that intelligence shared by the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation Victim Identification Team revealed that an Australian suspect arrested in 2025 had allegedly received child sexual exploitation material from individuals based in Ghana.

The CID boss further disclosed that investigators established that the Australian suspect transferred money to facilitators in Ghana in exchange for exploitative material involving children.

“The Australian authorities subsequently requested assistance from the Ghana Police Service to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects,” she stated.

Further investigations by Interpol Accra, together with the Child Digital Forensics and Cybercrime Units under the supervision of the CID Headquarters, led to the arrest of two suspects in the Ashanti Region and the rescue of two children aged between seven and 13 years.

Police later arrested a third suspect in the Bono Region, where two more victims aged six and seven years were rescued.

All three suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations, while the rescued children are currently receiving care from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in their respective regions.

The Abuse Relief Corps, a non-governmental organisation, is also supporting DOVVSU with counselling and other care services for the children.

Commissioner Donkor disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest some of the suspects are close relatives of the victims, including an older brother and a mother responsible for the children’s care.

She described child sexual abuse as a serious criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 penalty units, imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both.

She also warned that cyber-enabled child exploitation crimes are increasing due to the ease with which offenders commit such crimes, the difficulty in detecting them, and the financial gains involved.

The CID Director-General assured the public that the Ghana Police Service is strengthening collaboration with international partners and stakeholders to tackle child exploitation and abuse.

She also announced plans for a nationwide sensitisation campaign and the establishment of more cybercrime and child protection units across the country.

Hemang youth hunt for man accused of defiling teenage boys after police bail https://www.adomonline.com/hemang-youth-hunt-for-man-accused-of-defiling-teenage-boys-after-police-bail/ Tue, 12 May 2026 11:30:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2661218 Tension is mounting in the Hemang community in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region as some angry youth launch a manhunt for a 34-year-old man accused of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with teenage boys in the community.

According to residents, the suspect was initially arrested and handed over to the police at the Kodie District Police Command for investigations and possible prosecution.

However, the youth are outraged after the suspect was reportedly granted police bail and allegedly returned to the community.

The angry youth claim the suspect’s continued presence in the area is creating fear and provoking residents.

Speaking to the media, a Unit Committee member identified as Seth said the community would not tolerate such behaviour, describing it as unacceptable and against the cultural values of Hemang.

“We understand the police have the legal right to grant bail, but the people in this community do not feel comfortable living with him here. That is why some residents are searching for him to drive him out of the community,” he stated.

Seth further disclosed that the community currently has no substantive chief or traditional council to handle such matters, a situation he said has contributed to residents taking matters into their own hands.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended by residents on Monday, May 11, 2026, after allegations emerged that he had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with one of the teenagers for the past six months.

Meanwhile, residents are calling on the police to expedite investigations into the matter to prevent any possible outbreak of violence or acts of mob justice in the community.

Police have not yet to officially comment on the incident.
