Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has arrived in Ghana ahead of his official unveiling scheduled for Thursday, April 23.
The experienced Portuguese tactician touched down at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday evening and is set to be formally introduced at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Queiroz takes over on a short-term, four-month contract following the dismissal of Otto Addo, whose tenure ended after a string of inconsistent results.
The former Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran manager has been tasked with leading Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States later this year.
Renowned for his extensive World Cup experience, Queiroz guided Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010 and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments. He also played a role in South Africa’s qualification campaign for the 2022 World Cup.
As part of official protocol, the Ghana Football Association will present him to Sports Minister Kofi Adams following his unveiling.
Queiroz is expected to quickly settle into his role, beginning with Ghana’s preparatory fixtures against Mexico and Wales on June 2.
Ghana will compete in Group L at the World Cup, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move to steady the Black Stars and revive their fortunes after disappointing early exits at the 2014 and 2022 tournaments.
