Former Division One League Board Chairman, Lawyer Kwame Ntow Fianko has established that, the move by the government to financially support clubs in CAF Competitions is a good one but it shouldn’t be a nine-day wonder.

In a statement signed by the minister of youth and sports, Isaac Asiamah, each club playing in the CAF Champions’ League group stage will receive $200,000 while an appearance at the same stage in the CAF Confederation Cup will attract $150,000.

According to the legal practitioner on Asempa FM’s SportsNite Show, thirteen years ago (2006), King Faisal, Berekum Arsenal, Kotoko and Hearts received support from government so this is not anything new.

But he believes if this continues, it will help bring competition among the football clubs in Ghana which is good.

“It is advisable to start it now because, if clubs are supported to Africa, it will make the league very competitive devoid of any match of inconveniences. The clubs will know that if they qualify, the cost of the plane ticket which is in dollars and expensive, will be paid for them.” He said.

Per this decision by government, Asante Kotoko who are currently in the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup will be the first beneficiaries.
