The death toll from the tragic Bukom Junction accident has risen to two following the death of another victim who had been battling injuries sustained in the crash.

The deceased, identified as Haruna, reportedly passed away in the late hours of Monday, August 3, just over a week after the devastating accident occurred on July 27.

Haruna sustained serious injuries to both legs when a vehicle allegedly suffered brake failure and crashed into a group of pedestrians at Bukom Junction in the Ga Mashie area of Accra.

Although he received medical treatment and was later discharged from hospital, his condition reportedly deteriorated in the days that followed. He eventually succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening.

His burial rites are currently underway at Awudome Cemetery in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The fatal crash claimed its first victim at the scene. Esther Arthur, who was reportedly withdrawing cash by the roadside at the time of the incident, was struck by the out-of-control vehicle before it crashed into a nearby structure. She became trapped beneath the debris and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident, including children and a pregnant woman, all of whom were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are still underway.
