Residents and traditional authorities at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have staged a protest over what they describe as attempts by private developers to take over the entire township.

They claim the developers are seeking ownership of lands within Buduburam and have plans to redevelop the area, a move they say threatens long-standing residents and indigenous families.

Speaking to the media, Nana Kwesi Panyin, who represented the sub-chiefs, said checks at the Lands Commission allegedly showed that portions of the land were registered by a private company in 2022, despite communities having occupied the area for decades.

He explained that the developers are now laying claim to the township and allegedly seeking to evict residents and demolish properties.

Nana Kwesi Panyin warned that residents would resist any attempt to take over the land, insisting they are prepared to defend their homes.

“We will fight with our last blood if the developer tries to touch a single house,” he said.

Some residents also expressed fear of possible clashes if attempts are made to enforce ownership claims, calling on the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene to prevent tensions from escalating.

They say the situation, if not addressed, could lead to serious unrest in the community.
