Ghana’s midfield sensation, Winful Cobbinah has admitted playing their West African neighbors in the final group game of the ongoing FOX WAFU Cup of nations will not be a walk in the park even though the black stars top Group A with 6points.
Cobbinah has been livewire in the Black Stars B team and he proved his worth last Saturday by scoring a stunning goal to ensure the Black Stars B progressed to the semifinal competition with a 1-0 win over Mali.
But with the team already qualified, Cobbinah is preaching against complacency against Nigeria, who are in dire need of full spoils to also book their place in the last four.
“Nigeria has always come as though a customer in any competition and today is no exception. Although we have qualified out our Group we are very ready to face them and win”, he said.
“We will give our all because playing Nigeria is synonymous to playing in the finals. They play with all the aggression”, Cobbinah explained.
The match will take place at the Cape Coast stadium and it would be the 51st meeting between two great rivals with Ghana having the upper hand with 22 wins against Nigeria’s 10. 11 have ended in stalemates. The Black Stars last defeat against the Super Eagles was in 2006.
In the other group game, Mali and Guinea will square off at the Nduom sports stadium in Elmina.
Mali and Guinea will need maximum points to guarantee their continuation in the WAFU Cup of Nations and to earn a place in the semifinals.
Ghana top Group A with six points, followed by Nigeria with two points, Mali in third place with one point and Guinea are last with one point as well.
