Head coach of the Ghana Amateur boxing team, Ofori Asare, says his team is upbeat and ready to win more medals than they did in the last edition of the Commonwealth games held in Glasgow.
“Each boxer is determined to win a medal at the games and the high morale in camp together with massive training regimen could catapult Ghana to the top of the medals table”, coach Asare told graphic sports.
The Black Bombers returned to Accra yesterday to continue with a non-residential camping after a month of intensive training at their Cape Coast camp base, ahead of the games scheduled for Gold Coast, Australia.
Seven out of ten bombers will make it to Gold Coast following a rigorous selection process.
Those in camp now are Majeed Mohammed, Azuma Mohammed, Musa Rahman Lawson and Sherif Bawa. The rest are, Suleimanu Tetteh, Akimos Annan Ampah, Abdul Wahid Omar, and Abubakhari Quartey.
The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event, which involves athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930 and with the exception of 1942 and 1946, which were cancelled due to World War II, it has taken place every four years since then.
