President John Dramani Mahama has expressed optimism that several road projects under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme will be completed ahead of the December 2027 deadline due to the rapid pace of construction.
Speaking after inspecting ongoing Big Push road projects in the Volta Region as part of his regional tour, the President said he was impressed with the progress made on the various projects.
According to him, the speed of work on the roads suggests that many of them could be delivered earlier than originally scheduled.
Mr Mahama said the completion of the projects would significantly improve road transportation by providing motorists with safer, smoother and more efficient travel across the country.
He noted that the Big Push initiative is not only transforming road infrastructure but also creating substantial employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
The President disclosed that the programme has so far generated an estimated 300,000 direct and indirect jobs nationwide.
He explained that while thousands of workers have been employed directly on construction sites, many others have benefited through businesses that support the road projects.
According to him, food vendors, quarry operators, fuel suppliers, cement distributors, iron rod suppliers and other service providers have all experienced increased economic activity as a result of the ongoing construction works.
Mr Mahama said the Big Push programme remains a key component of the government’s infrastructure agenda aimed at improving connectivity, stimulating economic growth and creating sustainable jobs across the country.
