Support has begun reaching victims of the Obuasi Townhill fire disaster, as Bawa Rock Limited has donated relief items and cash to more than 300 people affected by the blaze that destroyed sections of the Obuasi Central Market.
The company provided 65 industrial sewing machines with GH¢5,000 each for master tailors, 110 sewing machines with GH¢500 each for apprentices, 30 containers, and GH¢20,000 each for affected shop owners.
Speaking to Adom News, the Business Development and Sustainability Lead of Bawa Rock Limited, Eric Addae Boateng, said the CEO directed management to respond quickly to help victims rebuild their livelihoods.
He noted that the total support in cash and kind amounts to GH¢150 million and appealed to other corporate bodies and individuals to also assist those affected.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, commended Bawa Rock for complementing the government’s efforts and encouraged other well-meaning organisations to support the victims.
She also urged affected fashion designers to operate temporarily from their homes while plans for the reconstruction of the market are pursued.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Bawa Rock and other donors, while appealing to the Municipal Assembly to speed up the rebuilding of a safe, permanent structure so that full business operations can resume.
