Founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, says he sees nothing wrong with the nomination of Jean Adukwei Mensa as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

According to him, the two major political parties in the country have followed the same path of nominating persons they deem to have integrity for the EC job.

He said since NDC and NPP have taken that stand, those opposing the nomination of Jean Mensa should accept it and stop making unnecessary comments about the nomination.

“The NDC and NPP are really playing games with this EC job. First, it was Mahama who appointed Charlotte Osei and now Akufo Addo appointing Jean because they think she is capable of working and has integrity.

“It later turned out that Charlotte Osei was not a woman with integrity after all and now we have Jean and the NDC don’t understand. If Jean Mensa is NPP, what’s your beef”, he quizzed.

The NDC had said that Mrs Jean Mensah was unfit to hold the EC job because she is “a known pro-NPP and an avowed anti-NDC person”.

The party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has served notice that his party would, in due course, “provide further and better particulars of the open and covert activities of Jean Mensa which makes her unfit to occupy the high position”.

But reacting to the statement on Adom FM’s Morning Show Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, Mr Ayariga argued that the standpoint of the NDC “does not make sense” because the party has failed to make any tangible arguments.

He said the APC is more interested in a more competent person and if Jean Mensa proves to be credible, then the ACP will gladly work with her.

“What we are most interested in as a party is her competence and if she proves to be credible, then we will work with her. When you are dedicated to your job, then we are sure you will do the right thing. I’m not interested in her being pro or anti” she said.
