Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed the root cause of the shooting incident at their party office in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.

According to Mr Jacobs who was speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, the incidence was triggered by a feuding faction in the party.

He revealed that an aggrieved party member is running a parallel party office and is also calling himself a Regional Chairman at the expense of the elected chairman.

“so the National Chairman and General Secretary had gone to the region to resolve the impasse ahead of the NDC’s presidential primaries when the incident occurred,” Mr Jacobs disclosed.

One person was shot dead at the NDC regional office on Monday while executives of the party, including party chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia were in a meeting.

Reports say the shooting followed an altercation between one of the victims and the shooter who is said to be a member of NDC vigilante group, the Hawks.

The man whose identity is yet to be confirmed was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital but has died. A statement from the party has confirmed the shooting and death.

He indicated that based on the conduct of some former executives, the Ashanti region NDC is the most indiscipline branch of the party.

The former NDC Central Regional chairman expressed worrying about how some “ragamuffins” have taken the party hostage in the Ashanti region.

Allotey Jacobs condemned the shooting incident in no uncertain terms and called on the police to speed up investigate and punish the culprits.
