NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Sam Nettey George, has given his account before the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry today February 25, 2019 following the shooting and violence that characterized the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019.

According to him, he was tasked to coordinate the
team of Member of Parliaments working as election monitors since by-elections
are normally not just restricted to members of the constituencies.

He said it was for that reason he was present in the Constituency on January 31, 2019.

“The 21 MPs were accredited by the EC to
monitor the Ayawaso by-election. The night before the by-election, I received
the accreditation tags. I was supposed to meet the MPs early the next morning
to give them the accreditation.

Mr. Nettey George said when he arrived at La Bawaleshie, he saw the convoy of heavily armed, masked men in the streets.

“The masked men said that they were arresting Maame
Efua Sakyi Addo and seizing her phone because she had been taking a photo of
them. After the first shot was fired, the crowd had started dispersing but the
armed men fired into the crowd” he stated.

The NDC MP narrating how he was attacked brought out spent shell casings gathered from the scene adding that those are evidence that shots were fired.
