A 63-year-old man has set himself ablaze at Kasoa in the Central region Monday.
The distressed man whose name was only given as Olu, died from his injuries after residents struggled to put the flames out.
According to reports, the old man who lost his wife killed himself after efforts to raise money for her funeral proved futile.
A resident in his house said he saw smoke billowing from the room of the old man at dawn and raised an alarm.
But within minutes, the room caught fire but they were able to douse it after several calls to the fire service proved futile.
However, when they broke the door, the saw the charred body of Olu on the floor.
They are convinced the old man killed himself because before “setting himself ablaze, he told us he did not have money to organize a befitting burial for his wife”.
