There is heavy security at the Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital following the shooting of a laboratory technician by an unknown person Monday.
Surgeons at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital spent Monday night trying to retrieve a bullet from the shoulder of a laboratory technician after he was shot by an unknown person.
The spokesperson for the hospital, Mustapha Salifu, said the incident happened shortly after 2PM on Monday.
“He [victim] was in the office with another colleague – that was shortly after 2pm – and he said he felt something has hit him.
“So he asked his colleague to check and when they checked they saw that he was indeed hit by a bullet.
The identity of the victim he said has not been released by hospital officials.
Few hours after the unfortunate incident, Laboratory Technicians threatened to embark on a sit-down strike in protest over what they describe as poor security system at the hospital.
The incident which generated fear and panic among the workers threatened to lay down their tools if security in the hospital is not beefed up.
But speaking to Adom News, Deputy Biomedical Scientist at the hospital, David Anafu said the heavy security presence at the hospital has instilled confidence in the members of the association.
The security, he said has forced them to rescind their decision on their intended strike action.
