Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, NDC chairman (2nd R)

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu constituency in the Northern region, Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, has said the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is engaging in a malicious conduct following last Tuesday’s arrest of the NDC chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo by the CID.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo government is already panicking because of the massive support both the chairman and the flagbearer of the party, John Mahama is getting from Ghanaians, which to him will show the New Patriotic Party (NPP) the exit in 2020.

“We are only pointing to the fact that they are engaging in malicious conduct which is an abuse of the rights of our chairman. Already, they are panicking that people are supporting us and their days are numbered and so they are finding ways and means to hold him captive and prevent him from working,” he said in an interview on Joy News’ AM Show Wednesday.

His comments follow last Tuesday’s arrest of Mr Ofosu-Ampofo by the CID over arson and kidnappings.

But, to Mr A.B.A. Fuseini, their party chairman is a man of integrity, adding that the police only want to bring him down with their ‘dirty politics’.

He said when the NPP was in opposition, the party passed a vote of no confidence in the Ghana Police and said they won’t cooperate with them and therefore wondered why they are now in bed with the police.
