Officials of Ghana’s Gaming Commission have stormed the Assin Fosu town police station over what they describe as unlawful release of suspected illegal gamblers arrested during operations in Assin Fosu.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Gaming Commission, Frederick Kobby Annan, they have received several complaints from parents whose children are actively involved in gambling even after arresting the suspects.

He said the Anti-underage Campaign for Gaming taskforce of the Gaming commission visited Assin Fosu to curb children participation in jackpot and football betting operations in the area.

During the operation, offices of Winnerbet and Safaribet in Assin Fosu were closed down for engaging children in gambling.

Two illegal jackpot operators were also arrested and handed over to the police.

Before the operation could end, Mr Annan said the suspects had already been released by the police.

Describing the conduct of the police as unprofessional, Mr. Annan could not fathom why the police released the suspects without any authorization.

“What kind of country are we in where suspects are released by police without any authorization. I want to know who authorized the release of these children and so I need answers now before I leave” the angry commissioner told the police.

But the Assin Fosu District Police Commander Supt. Magnus Reindolph Annan, when contacted by Adom News denied discharging the suspects on same day of the arrest.

He said the suspects are on bail and are waiting for official statement from the gaming commission to proceed to court.
