Deputy Director of Communications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen, has described leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko as a de facto Chief of Staff.
According to Kwaku Boahen, Gabby, also cousin to President Akufo-Addo and some elements around the President at the Jubilee House have become so powerful since assuming power 15-months ago.

“What would you expect from a man who is a cousin to the President? Do you think a whole Asantehene would wake up one day and accuse Gabby and his cohorts of undermining him if there is no truth in it? They are capable and I believe what Otumfuo said”, he asserted.
News went viral on Thursday that Asantehene’s Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was angry over attempts by some elements within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to run him down.
Names of Gabby and Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo were mentioned as those behind the plot.

But Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, nephew to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has since denied any such plot, saying he is not stupid to undermine the Asante monarch.
But the NDC man who was speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show, “Badwam” on Friday alleged that Gabby the two were capable of the act, especially they have been capable of turning contracts penciled for contractors to persons of their choice.

“Gabby is now a de facto Chief of Staff; he has taken over affairs of the real of Chief of Staff and is giving contracts to people on their heart. He controls what comes in and out of the presidency”, Boahen alleged.
He also wondered why the President has not made any pronouncements concerning the matter so far.
