A cocoa farmer at Goka in the Jaman North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region has pledged to support the free Senior High School (SHS) policy with five bags of cocoa every year.
The 70-year-old farmer, Nana Twen Adu-Asare who has been farming for the past forty (40) years and has over 40 acres of cocoa, says he did not get the needed education in his youthful stage as a result of poverty.
It is with this that he has decided to help children of poor parents to get free education with his initiative.
He disclosed to Adom News’ Emmanuella Ablah Aforkpah that every year he will support government through the sale of five cocoa bags as his contribution to see that government’s Free SHS materialize.
“I have decided to help Nana Addo to make sure that the free SHS materialize. I am 70 years old now and very old. I didn’t get that education because my parents then were very poor and because education is very important, I have decided to help by selling 5 bags of cocoa then hand over the money to government to support children of poor parents” he said.
Nana Adu-Asare says he will continue to support till he is no more.
Nana Adu-Asare, asked the government especially the Agriculture Ministry to take the cocoa sector seriously and support farmers with loans so they do not divert to growing cashew.
He also urged government to stop issuing mining licenses because it is causing more destruction than the money made from it.
