A Chief prosecutor of the Kumasi Central Police Station in the Ashanti region has justified his decision not to take care of his three children after divorcing their mother.

He made the comment on Asempa FM’s mid-morning show, Abrabo hosted by Maame Akua Austin Wednesday after his ex-wife Rita Eshun Rockson accused him of being an irresponsible father.

The distraught mother said she divorced the Chief Inspector after eight years of marriage due to his abusive nature.

Madam Rockson says she called it quit when the physical and emotional trauma became unbearable following incessant pleas by family members to Chief Inspect Owusu to stop beating his wife fell on deaf ears.

Madam Rockson’s decision has, however, irked her ex-husband who has decided not to take care of their three children, a situation that is affecting their education.

She says she’s aware that the non-maintenance and care of children was a criminal offence under the Children’s Act and is therefore asking for the law to deal with him.

But in a rebuttal, Chief Inspector Owusu who conceded to all the allegations said he is currently broke.

The best he could do is to look after two of the children as his ex-wife takes care of one because the maintenance of children is not one person’s responsibility.

Meanwhile, marriage counsellor, George Lutterodt expressed shock at the conduct of the police officer.

In his view, he expected the Chief Inspector who is an enforcer of the law to know better.

The controversial counsellor bemoaned the high rate of child neglect by fathers who leave the upkeep of their children to wives and concubines.

Counsellor Lutterodt charged the Police Inspector to rescind his decision and take responsibility for the children he has brought on earth.
