The Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, is urging flagbearer hopeful, Sylvester Mensah to consider vying for the General Secretary position of the party.

According to Mr Allotey, the former National Health Insurance Authority [NHIA] Chief Executive Officer has the skills to communicate party policies effectively to convince Ghanaians to vote massively for the NDC ahead of the 2020 general election.

Ahead of the NDC’s flagbearership election in December, many party bigwigs have declared their intentions to contest.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, former Rector of University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Joshua Alabi and many others will give former President John Mahama a run for his money should he join the race.

But of all the men who have declared their intentions so far, Mr Mensah says he is the most competent individual to lead the party going into the 2020 elections.

But on Accra-based Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo Wednesday, Allotey Jacobs said Sylvester Mensah is just tickling himself.

He indicated that former President Mahama is the preferred choice of grassroots members of the party thus “any other person is just wasting his time”.

The NDC Central Regional Chairman wondered why such a communications mogul like Sylvester Mensah would want to be a flagbearer when he can equally contribute his quota to the NDC as an effective General Secretary.

“Sylvester Mensah is a very good communicator and I think he will be a good General Secretary for NDC than a flagbearer” he added.

Allotey Jacobs advised Mr Mensah to rescind his decision and contest for a national party position.
