The over 10 thousand condoms estimated to be distributed in Kwahu during the Easter festivities this year are woefully inadequate, the Director General of the Ghana AIDS Commission has said.

Mr Steve Kyeremeh Atuahene said the unprecedented demand for condoms is an indication that their education on protection has really impacted lives.

Though they have deployed about 10,000 pieces of condoms to be distributed in the Eastern region town, he is certain it will not be enough for the revelers at the 2019 Kwahu Easter festivities.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Friday, the Ghana AIDS Commission boss said they have started the HIV/AIDS screening in all three districts in Kwaku.

“We have set up over 30 tents in all the districts in Kwahu to screen people for HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases. AIDS now is like any chronic disease like hypertension so let’s not fear,” he assured.

He underscored the need for everyone to know his or her HIV/AIDS status to avoid sudden deaths.

Mr Atuahene revealed that, Eastern region has a high prevalence rate of HIV and AIDS, hence the need for such strategic move to help improve on the education and sensitisation on the disease.

Since the Ghana AIDS Commission wants to boost their pleasure in the mountainous enclave, he said the distribution of the condoms is of paramount importance.
