National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Stephen Atubiga, has withdrawn from the flagbearer race in order to throw his weight behind John Dramani Mahama.

According to Mr Atubiga, the decision has become necessary because after deliberation with Mr Mahama, he realised they had similar vision.

“After deliberations and consultations with my team members and supporters, I know he is the one who can give the people what they want,” he explained. 

He further stated that Mr Mahama stood tall so far as the choices of the people and mobilization of the party is concerned.

“If I could go to prison for him to be president, I can equally step down for him this time too,” he noted.

Mr Atubiga who was expected to file his nomination to contest the presidential primary had claimed that aspirants including Mr Mahama see him as a threat in the January 26, 2019 race.
