The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South in the Ahafo Region, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, has called on residents to actively participate in the government’s Tree for Life initiative to ensure the country derives maximum benefit from the investment being made in the programme.
Speaking at a tree-planting exercise in Acherensua, Mr. Donkor said the government is committing significant resources to the initiative and stressed the need for communities to take ownership of the trees after they are planted.
The exercise brought together officials of the District Assembly, traditional leaders, personnel from the Forestry Commission, schoolchildren and residents, who planted trees in various parts of the community.
According to the DCE, the success of the initiative will not be measured by the number of trees planted but by how well they are nurtured and protected to maturity.
He urged residents, particularly students, to take responsibility for caring for the trees to ensure the country receives value for money from the programme.
Mr. Donkor further disclosed that the District Assembly would closely monitor the growth and survival of the planted trees to ensure the objectives of the initiative are achieved.

The Akyempimhene of Acherensua, Nana Aduse Poku, described the Tree for Life initiative as a commendable programme that requires the support of all stakeholders.
He called on residents to play their part in protecting the environment and ensuring the success of the exercise.

Meanwhile, the Deputy District Manager of the Bechem Forestry Commission, Josephine Biney, encouraged residents to fully embrace the initiative, noting that it would bring significant environmental and economic benefits to the country.
She emphasized that the programme is a collective responsibility and urged all citizens to contribute to its success.
