National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called for calm and unity among party supporters following a disruption during his ongoing thank-you tour of the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
The incident reportedly occurred during the programme after tensions emerged over the death of Haruna Shaibu, popularly known as Alhaji.
Addressing supporters, Mr. Asiedu Nketia cautioned party members against turning against one another while seeking justice over the matter.
“You have to be very careful to know what you are fighting for. The fighting alone cannot get justice for Alhaji,” he stated.
According to him, internal divisions and confusion would only weaken efforts to pursue justice for the deceased.
“If we are fighting the same war and you turn your guns against each other, how can you win the same war?” he questioned.
The NDC Chairman suggested that some individuals may be taking advantage of the situation to create confusion and disrupt the programme rather than genuinely seeking justice.
“I believe there are people amongst you who just want to disrupt the programme. They are taking advantage of the case of Alhaji to cause confusion,” he said.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia stressed that the matter should not be used to settle personal grievances, describing the situation as more serious than that.
“It could have been anyone, and if Alhaji were alive, he would have been involved in organising this programme. So don’t take his case to settle your personal issues,” he added.
He further urged supporters who genuinely seek justice for Haruna Shaibu to remain focused and pursue the matter peacefully and responsibly.
