The Council of Zongo elders at Asante Akyem in the Ashanti region is appealing to the government for support to construct an Islamic Senior High Schools (SHS) in the area.

They made this appeal when the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visited the area on Wednesday to donate water and other items to aid their Ramadan fasting and also worshipped with them.

The Vice President pledged government’s commitment to make the vision of the Council of Elders see the light of day.

Meanwhile, according to the elders, the presence of the Islamic SHS will help to increase school enrollment in the area and will go a long way to promote education in the area.

In an interview with Adom News, the General Secretary of the Council, Abdul Rauf stated that government’s support in the project will be a dream come true for them.

“We have acquired a large scale of land here in Asante Akyem on which we have been able to construct basic and junior high schools and wish to add an SHS.

“We will therefore appeal to government to help with this project because we have about 8 Islamic junior high schools and we believe this can help the Islamic pupils who wish to attend an Islamic SHS to do so,” he said.

To the group, government’s support in the project will also go a long way to reflect the commitment towards the Inner City and Zongo development plans of the government.
