Former Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah has raised concerns about the Black Stars’ preparedness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, questioning the stability of the current squad as the competition approaches.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece in North America, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
The Black Stars are aiming to improve on their group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, but Asamoah believes the team still lacks cohesion and a settled starting lineup.
“To build a team needs time. With our national team now, I don’t think we really have a starting XI,” the former Juventus midfielder told 3Sports.
“Today, it’s a new team, another time, another different team. And then having a new coach won’t be easy for him,” he added.
Asamoah, who featured for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, pointed to constant changes within the squad as a major challenge ahead of the tournament.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and concluding their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, Carlos Queiroz’s side will step up preparations with international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2. The final squad for the competition is expected to be announced on June 1.
