The arrest of some persons suspected to have links with terrorist group, ISIS, vindicates claims by the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa that Ghana is on the radar of terrorist groups on the continent.
This vindication, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mark Oliver-Kevor said is a clear indication that the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs committee of the Parliament picked up the right intelligence.
“Okudzeto-Ablakwa has been vindicated, he had been warning of this but he was accused of causing and fear and panic and today, the arrest vindicates him…,” he said.

The comments of Mark Oliver-Kevor follows the arrest of three persons by the Odorkor Police Command for possessing grenades.
One of the arrested persons, is said to have links to terrorist group, ISIS.
Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa in August 2017 warned that Ghana was on the radar of terrorist groups in the country.
His warning came at the back of a travel advisory on the website of the Canadian Embassy in Ghana which cautioned Canadian citizens wanting to travel to Ghana over a looming threat of terrorist attack.

“There is a threat of terrorism. Terrorist targets could include shopping malls, government buildings, public areas such as bars, restaurants, hotels and sites frequented by Westerners. Be aware of your surroundings in public places,” the travel advisory on the Canadian Embassy in Ghana in part noted.
“In other countries, they don’t keep quiet on this potential threat. They announce it, they raise alert levels and announce precautionary measures for citizen to take. It is my hope the Ghanaian Government will take a cue and make sure that we get to the bottom of the matter,” he noted at the time.
Government reacted by claiming that the warnings were hoax, claiming that it had put in place all the needed arrangements to secure the country.
News of the arrest of the 3 suspected terrorists, Oliver-Kevor speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ said should be a wake-up call to the government to up its game on securing the borders of the country.
Steps being taken to secure the country, he said, should include educating the citizenry on the modus operandi of terrorists.
“There is the need for awareness creation and education of the citizenry so they can draw the attention of the security agencies when they spot persons suspected to be terrorists…,” he said.

Oliver Kevor further called for further investigations to unearth the true identities of the grenade carriers.
“We should ask what the motive of the people who brought the grenades are. Logically, it can be traced that the people who were in possession of the grenades wanted to cause harm…secondly, there is the need to ask how it was smuggled to Ghana…Do we have weak borders; how are our customs and border patrols officials trained?” he quizzed.
