Junior Workers Staff Union of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has kicked against government’s decision to scrap TOR and replace it with Tank Farm to render the workers jobless.
Chairman of the Junior Staff Workers Union of TOR, Elton John Botwe, said TOR already owns a tank farm and the area of the plant cannot build more than four tanks when it is pulled down.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues on Monday, he noted that the Workers have nothing against the establishment of the Tank Farm but do not support the scraping of Refinery Plant.

“If you want to build Tanks or another Refinery then we do not have a problem with you as government but if you want to scrap our Tank, that is where we are bothered,” he said.
“But when you say you want to take off the plant, then you are telling me as an engineer to go home and that is where we have a problem’’, he added.

Mr. Botwe added that the Senior Workers Union also supports them since they are equally against the scraping of the Refinery Plant.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of GASOP Oil, Kwadwo Poku is stunned by the development in view of the fact that government had earlier said it was going to help TOR to build a 150,000 barrel new refinery adjacent and alongside the existing one to use the current depot at TOR as said by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Mohammed Amin Anta.
