Actress Ama K. Abebrese has appealed for support and prayers for junior colleague Emmanuel Quaye, popularly known as Strika, amid recent concerns surrounding the young actor’s situation.
Reports are that Strika was arrested after allegedly damaging metal railings from the Kwashieman footbridge to sell as scrap.
Speaking in a video message, Ama K. Abebrese said Striker’s recent situation had generated considerable commentary in the media but noted that she would not discuss details because it appeared to involve a criminal case.
Rather, she addressed commentary seemingly comparing Strika to Abraham Attah.
Being a cast members of Beast of No Nation, the film that brought both actors into the spotlight, said she found it unfair for people who do not know the Strika’s personal circumstances to judge or compare his journey with that of others.
According to Ama, while Striker may appear to have been given opportunities that many young people would have considered enviable, his journey has been far more complicated than outsiders may realise.
“…people out there will just think, oh he just squandered that opportunity. And also so many people comparing him to Abrahim Attah, whose situation is also very different. You know, there’s a saying that all fingers are not equal. But these are very talented young people. Emmanuel [Strika] is an amazing young talent”.
Ama said she views Strika’s current situation as part of his journey and expressed hope that he would overcome the difficulties he is facing.
She revealed that several people had tried to support the actor over the years in different ways, although she acknowledged that some of those efforts had not produced the desired results.
“I do know he needs support, I will try and support him, and I know other people have tried. I do think he needs prayers. But please, try not to compare him to anybody else,” she urged.
